St. Mary’s Catholic Church The 5 th Sunday in Ordinary T ime February 10 , 2019 Dear parishioners, Last week the first reading told the story of Jeremiah’s call to serve as a prophet. This week we hear of Isaiah’s call. For Isaiah it was a mystical experience with visions, the voice of an angel, and finally God’s voice. In the second reading Paul recalls his mission. He is deeply humbled that he was chosen to bring the good news. Because he persecuted the church, he feels completely unworthy of the call. Yet he knows he has been uniquely called and he has responded whole-heartedly. Jesus was aware of his mission. He got into a boat to preach. When he finished, he engaged Peter and Andrew, Janes and John in a miraculous experience to let them know they also were called to preach. They followed Jesus and learned from him and after Pentecost truly went out to the world to spread the Good News. Each of us has also been called to this mission. We, like Paul, could surely be humbled to be chosen. We also need to follow Jesus and learn. And then like Isaiah and Paul Peter, Andrew, James, and John we ought to be wholehearted in our zeal to make God’s love known. St. Mary’s Catholic Church The 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time February 10, 2019

Dear parishioners,

Last week the first reading told the story of Jeremiah’s call to serve as a prophet.

Sister Carol
