“Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in

us.” (2 Tim 1:14) “Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in

us.” (2 Tim 1:14)

“In everything, do to others as you would have them do to

you; for this is the law and the prophets.” (Mt 7:12)

From the Administrator’s Desk…….

I need not tell you that we are in very difficult and different days. It’s been a long time since there has been a global pandemic of this scale and it’s up-set our daily routine tremendously. I posted on our Facebook page an article from a cloistered nun about how to react to social distancing. Take a look at it; I found it helpful and funny.

One of the things I’d like to recommend is to

use this time to reach out to someone and keep in contact with them. Whether it be our neighbors, our family, or friends, pick up the phone and give them a call. During this time when physical isolation from oth-ers is needed, there is a danger of social, emotional, and spiritual isolation as well. It’s important to remem-ber that we’re not alone. We don’t know how long this will last, but we know that Our Lord is still with us; in the illness and confusion he’s still there. We can be His presence to others, just in different ways than our usual face to face contact.

I’d also ask that you keep in prayer our doc-

tors, nurses, and police and firefighters. Some have been called to extra shifts and are working longer hours than normal. May they be given the grace to carry out their much-needed service.

One change that this virus has brought about

is regarding a wedding I was to have in Delaware on May 2nd. First, I had to tell the couple that they could only have myself, themselves, their parents, and other immediate family members, under 10 people total, at the wedding. No music, and no Mass, either, just the wedding ceremony. We also had to move up the day of the wedding because the courthouses were closing and there may be future restrictions on gathering in the future. In Delaware you can only get a license 30 days beforehand, unlike Maryland where it is six months. Interestingly, in Delaware both parties need to get the license but here only one of them needs to go. I don’t know how that works, but there you go. Thankfully, the couple got the license just in time right before the courthouse closed.

So please keep this couple in your prayers. A lot goes into the wedding day, and no there will be no guests and the reception has been moved to Autumn. But Jesus will still be in our midst, just as He was at the wedding feast of Cana. And that’s the most impor-tant part of any wedding day and the years of mar-riage to follow, God’s presence with the husband and wife. This Saturday, God willing, they will be joined in a sacramental marriage, albeit under different circum-stances. It certainly isn’t as they planned, but, as I told them, this will be a good story to tell the grand-kids.

Know of my prayers for all of you, and feel free

to stop in church during the day to pray. “I wish it need not have happened in my time,”

said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such time. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Pope Francis's prayer to Mary during coronavirus pandemic

Here is a CNS translation of the prayer Pope Francis recited by video on March 11 for a special Mass and act of prayer asking Mary to protect Italy and the world during of the coronavirus pandemic. O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

Help us keep you up to date with the latest information regarding closings and hopefully the re-scheduling of activities. We try very hard to post items on face-book and our website as well as

direct mail. If you would like to be on our direct mail l i s t , p l e a s e e m a i l D o n n a a t o f [email protected]. Thank you.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT From the desk of Kathleen Manns, Principal…

We are currently accepting enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year for students entering pre-K3 through 8th grade. There are limited openings throughout our grades and we want to extend this information to our supporting parishes. During Lent our school’s observances include classes praying the Stations of the Cross and the Rosary as well as participation in Operation Rice Bowl to support Catholic Relief Services. Each family in our MBS school community has received a Rice Bowl into which coins or bills will be collected and turned into the school office. Our students are focusing on kindness during Lent. Doing various acts of kindness is one way to grow in our love for God during this season. May we all offer some form of kindness to others during Lent. Let us show God that we want to change by turning towards the Lord. Congratulations to our students who participated in the Shirley Hall Memorial Youth Art Exhibit held at the Art League of Ocean City: Danaya Arzadon Sophia Maskel Kassidy Behornar Nick Nowakowski Gabe Failla Michael Peranteau Tayler Flaherty Mary Short Katelynn King Wesley Simmons Layla Lockerman Alicia Walker Lauren Lynch David Wanalista And to our Knights of Columbus Council #11285 Essay Winners Katelynn King Grace Short Nick Nowakowski Wesley Simmons May God Bless all our families It’s a great time to be an MBS Dolphin!

Well, we have so much going on that sometimes it is hard to decide what to do. However, we really just need to

PRAY, listen to the experts and do what we are asked to do! Many have asked what about our faith in God! Well, our faith in God is awesome but faith in God means we also have to be willing to do God’s will at all times. Sometimes, God’s will is easy, other times it is trying and takes trust! Following God’s will is always beautiful! So, listen for God’s will, do as you are directed and know that God Loves You immensely and will provide. Be ready and aware to accept God’s direction in whatever form it comes. In conversation this weekend I thought of a story I heard years ago and thought I would share it with you. It just serves as a reminder, sometimes we forget that God knows best and will not abandon us…we just have to be open to his direction! A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help. Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof,

“Jump in, I can save you.” The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.” So the rowboat went on. Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motor-boat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.” To this the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.” So the mo-torboat went on. Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.” To this the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.” So, the helicopter reluctantly flew away. Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t un-derstand why!” To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”

Electronic Giving

Electronic giving (called WeShare) is the preferred way to make your weekly offertory. By giving electronically, it relieves the need for about 6 parishioners to count money every Sunday (about 10 hours total). Furthermore, the parish could eventually save money on envelope printing and mailing and you would not have to write checks. The Finance Council would also be able to budget more efficiently. Please consider making the switch; it is safe and secure. Cards are avail-able in the back of church with instructions to join WeShare and have your offering sent electronically. If you need assis-tance setting this up, please don’t hesitate to call the parish office (410-289-0652). Thank you for your continuing support.

Tax Free Charitable Distribution

Need a tax break? Congress has permanently enacted qualified charitable distributions from your traditional IRA accounts. These distributions can be used to satisfy all or a portion of your Required Minimum Distribution and are free of federal and state income tax. Also, these gifts help you avoid the Medicare high income surcharge and can help reduce your income taxes on your social secu-rity benefits. Distributions must be made directly from your IRA ac-count to St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. For questions, contact the parish office at 410-289-0652

“GO FUND ME” Capital Campaign Site

Please tell your family, friends, and neighbors and/or post on social media that St. Mary’s Star of the Sea has a Go Fund Me page to help us finance the Ex-panding Our Home capital campaign. This project not only expands and renovates historic St. Mary’s Church, but also improves Ocean City’s downtown. Please post this link on your social media sites. https://www.gofundme.com/f/expanding-our-home
