PARISH

EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY IN

ORDINARY TIME

AUGUST 4, 2019

Mission Statement

We the people of St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish in Ocean City, Maryland,

want to respond to God’s love for us by doing His will, to live the Gospel of

Jesus Christ and to love each other as Jesus loved us. In this way, He can live, as

Risen Lord, in our midst and attract all people to the Father. As part of the Church, we

want to be a “Home and School of Communion” where, through the celebration and

living out the Sacraments, and various ministries, each member can live in unity as a

child of God, building up the Kingdom of God until Jesus will come again in glory.

“Above all, put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.” (Col. 3:14)

I recently received a letter from the

Bishop regarding the 2013 Capital Campaign of the Diocese. In it he noted that the campaign as a whole went over the goal although some parishes who met their goal have, over the ensuing years, not had the pledges honored completely. Understanding that circumstances of life change, he decided to forgive the obligation of $2,899 that we were short. He also asked me to share this information with you and express his gratitude for your continued support. So, we thank the Bishop for this forgiveness and for his understanding.

Secondly, this weekend we celebrate one of our parish feasts. I always want to learn about the patron of the parish when I move there, and initially thought that our parish didn’t have a particular day that was celebrated for our patrons, even with having two churches. But after some further investigation, thank you Google, I found that the Feast of St. Mary Star of the Sea is September 27th and the Feast of the Most Holy Savior is the Sunday closest to August 6th, the Feast of the Transfiguration; this year it falls on today, August 4th.

I’m interested in how we will celebrate these feasts in the future. From a cursory look, in places where these two feasts are celebrated there are special Masses, processions, and meals (there’s even a starfish cookie to make for Mary, Star of the Sea). I don’t want to make a change regarding these days this year, but please let me know what you think we should do for the future. One option is to celebrate the feasts on their proper days, the other is to transfer them to the closest Sunday, which in the case of the Feast of the Most Holy Savior is done automatically.

So, once again, please let me know what you

think about celebrating our parish feasts in the coming years and a blessed Feast of the Most Holy Savior to you all.

In Christ, Fr. Solomon

MASS INTENTIONS

Sharing the Gospel When you put Jesus first in your life, you will have every-thing you need. Having a lot of stuff won't really make you or God happy. God doesn't want you to keep your bless-ings to yourself. God wants you to share what he has given you. Be "rich" in only the things that God cares about. The closer you grow with God, the happier you will be. Prayer Dear God, help me to remember what is really important to you. Something to Draw Draw a picture of yourself giving one of your books away to someone who doesn't have any. Mission for the Week When you get home, pack three toys and three books to give to children without any. ©2008 - PO Box 510817, New Berlin, WI 53151-0817 - 1-800-950-9952 x2469 - LPiResourceCenter.com

Middle child as a camper this year as a leader We had the most wonderful week at Vacation Bible School this year!! We had the most awesome group of campers and a fantastic group of Leaders. It is truly a privilege for me to watch the whole program come together. Every year we have more children and thank God, more volunteers! Again, this year we had several leaders that have been campers in the past and this year, were old enough to lead, and did a remark-able job. One of the best parts of my role is that of observer! I watch to be sure all is going smoothly and no one needs a hand but that also gives me the opportunity to be a fly on the wall so to speak! At one point during the Dance and sing por-tion of the program we had the Blue shirts (Leaders) facing the white shirts (campers) to help each group learn the move-ments. I was so moved by the looks on our young campers faces, filled with love and admiration for the big kids that give o f t h e i r t i m e a n d t a l e n t .

They really form bonds and are sad when the week ends. As I said, this really touched my heart and I stood watching them and smiling. It wasn’t until I walked to the other side that I realized what was inspiring the love and admiration on the little faces. I looked into the faces of the leaders and the smiles were even bigger. Their faces shone with love, support and encouragement, I was overwhelmed. I know it is only a week each year but the joy and the love of Jesus that is experienced here is remark-able! I am truly grateful to all the adults (big Kids) that give of their time! I am also very humbled by the love and support of our entire parish family. If we need it, it arrives…whatever it is! The prayers, the encouragement….the loads of brown pa-per…we could not do it without you! So again I say, Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!! And God Bless you for helping our little Safari-er to follow the light of Christ Always! If you were not involved this year and are wishing you had been …there is always room for one more or two more or three, well you get the idea!! Everyone is welcome! It’s always a happy place!
