PASTORAL LEADER’S NOTES Dear Parishioners,
Last weekend our diocese began the Seminarian Collection for 2019. You should have received a letter from Bishop Ricken requesting your help in supporting this annual collection. The Seminarian collection is the primary means of funding our future priests and is done exclusively by direct mail.
Here’s some information about the Seminarian Collection that you should know:
• Last year, through the generosity of parishioners around the Diocese, more than $1,046,000 was given to this collection.
• Two new priests were ordained by Bishop Ricken on June 22, 2019 and we anticipate having 14 men in the seminaries for this upcoming fall.
• Most seminarians are in formation for six to eight years, which includes at least two years studying philosophy, and four years studying theology.
• Seminarians are responsible for their own costs while in the first two years of formation and the Diocese pays for their costs for the final six years of school.
• This coming school year, the Diocese of Green Bay expects to spend nearly $1,000,000 for tuition, room, and board, health insurance, summer language, spiritual and pastoral
programs, a small stipend, support of the Vocation Office and all of its outreach efforts, and other related costs.
Thank you for responding in faith
to our Seminarian Collection!
Our seminarians are our hope for the
future.
