From Fr. Mark’s Desk: Solemnity of Body and Blood of Christ: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” We recently celebrated Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit into our lives in many and varied ways. One such way is prevalent in today’s celebra on of the Body and Blood of Jesus. The gi s of bread and wine are made holy by the power of the Holy Spirit. “Make holy, there-fore, these gi s, we pray, by sending down your Spirit upon them… they may become for us the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.” It is the Spirit of God that makes this Eucharist we share, holy! From that point, a formula ensues. Take, Give Thanks, Break, and Share, becomes the very ritual of the Eucharist. This ritual can also be applied to our lives. We take what God has giv-en, give thanks for what we have received, break what we have and share it with others. In the Eucharist, this ‘ritual’ is intended, not to make less of what we are, but be er sanc fied in what we have shared and received. “The Eucharist can be seen only by those who already love the Lord and believe in his ac-

ve, loving presence to us. But is that not true of every good rela onship that we have? Friendship is like that, human love is like that. The bonds that unite us with those we love are invisible bonds. They become visible only indirectly, only by what we do as a result of them.” Henri Nouwen Thus, whoever eats this bread, lives! And so, the Eucharist is the source and summit of the life of the Chris an. The formula is this: Take, Give Thanks, Break, and Give. (Repeat as neces-sary!) So, last Sunday we had our 1st Mass in a while at 10am. It was good to be back. Our open-ing will be slow to ensure our gatherings are safe as can be for all. Please con nue to be pa-

ent as we go through this difficult me. And finally, the need for peace, harmony and an end to racial injus ce faces us again. I heard the ques on once: “Why do our voices raise when we are upset with another?” The answer was: “Because our hearts have dri ed apart”. Listen, pray, then speak. Peace be with you, and with your spirit. Have a great week! Fr. Mark Walter

Stewardship… Giving of our time, talent and treasure is not about giving until it hurts. Rather, it is about giving until you feel good about what you have given. How much you have has nothing to do with generosity to God. If you don’t give of your time, talent and treasure with what you have, you most likely won’t do it if you have more. “Whoever is faithful is small matters will be faithful in large ones.” (Luke 16:10) You are just one person, but you are important to God and His work. Be faithful as you give of your time, talent and treasure.

FOOD FROM HEAVEN God sustained the people of Israel for forty years in the desert with manna sent down from heaven, and Moses doesn’t want them to forget it. God brought forth water from stone for them to drink, and Moses doesn’t want them to forget this, either. And Moses tells them—twice—that the food that God sent was a food that neither they nor their an-cestors before them had ever experienced before. Jesus too speaks of food come down from heav-en, food that the Jewish people had never experi-enced before. Recalling the manna in the desert, Je-sus doesn’t want them to forget it either, explaining that he is the food and drink of eternal life. And Paul reiterates to the Corinthians and to all of us that in the bread and in the cup, we share in the body and blood of Christ. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
