St Lawrence & Mary Immaculate Parish Balcatta:
Parish Priest: Fr Emil Ciecierega SDS Assistant Priest: Fr Leonard Macionczyk SDS
It is hard to believe that the Season of Advent begins this Sunday!
As we prepare a place in our hearts and homes for Jesus,
may we be mindful of those with broken hearts and broken homes.
May our prayer and our practice go out to those in need.
The St Vincent De Paul Society will appreciate your gifts of present and Christmas cheer.
PRE PRIMARY NATIVITY
This Friday at 8.45am is our Pre Primary Nativity Play. This is one of the highlights of our school year
where our pre Primary students re-enact the birth of Jesus. Thanks to Mrs Byrne, Mrs Baker and
Mrs Tana for preparing all the students.
CHRISTMAS PLAY
In 2017 our school is modifying our Advent Assembly and changing into our Christmas Play which will
occur on Tuesday 5 December at 2.00pm in the church.
All students from Kindergarten to Year Six will have a role and participate in this play. I would like to
thank Mrs Annette Tana for her chorography and planning of this play. Following the play our Year 1 and
Year 2 St Lawrence Medal Award Winners for 2017 will be announced. It would be great to see many
families attend what will be a fantastic Christmas Play to celebrate the birth of Jesus. All students in Year
Four to Year Six are requested to wear their school uniform on this day.
FATHERING PROJECT
Our 2018 Fathering Project Camp is planned for Moore River on 16 and 17 March. Families are
requested to pay a $50 deposit, which will confirm their booking for 2018. As lots need to be booked by
early December, families are asked to pay their money to the office before the end of the school year.
This will be your last chance to guarantee your spot for the camp in 2018.

FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
ADVENT
This weekend, we commence the liturgical season of
Advent. Advent comes from the Latin word meaning
“coming” and during this period, we prepare ourselves
for the coming of Jesus.
BOOK COVERING
On Monday, teachers will be sending home notes regarding covering and labelling workbooks for 2018.
Please watch out for this notice and check with your current classroom teacher who will have spare
copies.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS APPEAL
Christmas hampers filled with non-perishable food items are a great way to provide families with dignity
and joy during the Christmas season. Each classroom has a box for families to donate food items. This is
a lovely message to pass onto children about giving and social justice issues in our society. There is a list
of suitable items below and one in every classroom. Many thanks for your generosity in supporting this
cause. Hampers will be collected on Wednesday 6th December.

CLASS NEWS
PRE KINDY
Well only two more Pre Kindy days and then it is time for a break before Kindy begins for all our
children. We are having fabulous days with our friends, learning so much and becoming so grown up.
This week we will watch the story of Jesus’ birth and we have already made a Nativity scene which is on
display in the class. Thanks to the wonderful mums and dads who have been coming on roster to share
time with us.
Mrs Kaylene Bozich, Pre Kindy Teacher
KINDERGARTEN
I can't believe we are nearly at the end of the school year! We are fully into the 'Christmas' theme,
learning about Christmas and making special arts and crafts. The children are busily practicing for their
concert on Wednesday, 6th December at 8.45 in the Under croft. Children can wear Christmas t-shirts or
Christmas coloured clothing. The children who have parts in the Nativity play will be given costumes to
wear on the morning.
We will also be participating in the whole school Christmas concert on Tuesday, 5th December at 2pm in
the Church. Everyone is welcome.
The list is up for food ideas for the last day party lunch. Please bring only a small plate of food to share as
there is always plenty to go around. We will have shared fruit as per usual.
Have a wonderful week, Mrs Simone Covich, Kindergarten Teacher
PRE PRIMARY
The Pre-Primary’s loved their visit to the Constable Care Safety School. Every child was able to ride a
bike, learn to cross the road safety and learn the safe actions to take around cars, trains, buses and bikes.
Many children in the class have since been talking about how they have been practicing their bike riding
at home. I have also seen some children write a bike on their Santa list. The Pre-Primary’s are incredibly
excited and a little nervous about our Nativity on Friday. They have been practicing hard and I’m sure
they will all be fantastic. All Pre-Primary families are welcome to join us in the Pre-Primary playground
after the assembly for photos and a quick play.
Mrs Laura Byrne, Pre-Primary Teacher
YEAR ONE
The children are continuing to work hard even though the end of the year is fast approaching. We are
looking forward to our last weeks together in Year One. A note was sent home yesterday with
information regarding costumes for the Christmas play on Tuesday 5th December. Please see me if you
did not receive the note from Mrs Tana. A big thank you to the parents who volunteered to help on our
excursion to Perth Zoo on Wednesday 6th December. As this is our last excursion and we had many
parents put their hand up to help, parents who were not chosen as a parent helper are welcome to
attend. Unfortunately, you will need to pay for your own entry into the Zoo if you wish to come
along. Entry is $31. Please let me know if you would like to come along. Thank you to all the parents
who have helped us on excursions throughout the year. Your help is very much appreciated. On
Tuesday morning 5th December, we will be cleaning desks. If anyone is able to help please let me know.
Mrs Roselyn Pizzino Year One Class Teacher
YEAR TWO
It has been great to see our class members develop their self management skills over the two weeks of
swimming lessons with minimal items misplaced and many friends helping others with their belongings
and shoe laces.
To celebrate our final week of Year Two, we will be gathering for a Family Picnic on Thursday 7
December at Braithwaite Park. All families are welcome to join with us for a play and picnic lunch
from 11.00am through to 1.30pm. A note outlining further details will be sent home by the end of the
week.
Mrs Jacki Tucker, Year Two Teacher
YEAR THREE We are looking forward to our trip to the movies next Tuesday. Thanks to all the parents who have
volunteered to help out. We have a busy last week of term.

LIBRARY NEWS
Borrowing during Library Sessions has now finished for this
year as we need to use the next few weeks to do collection
maintenance and chase up outstanding loans.
However, as was the case last year, children from Years 1-5 are
invited to borrow up to 4 fiction books and 1 non-fiction book
for the Christmas School Holidays. This invitation is only
available to students from these years who have been careful and
reliable borrowers throughout the entire year and have had no
more than five overdue notices.
As there will be no library lessons in the last week of term, those children wishing to borrow can come
to the library, in the last week of term, either before school or at lunchtime, on Tuesday or
Wednesday. They will need to bring their library bags. Parents are most welcome to accompany their
children when they borrow.
LEXILES
All lexile books need to be returned this Friday. Over the years, a number of lexiles have gone missing. If
all families could just check at home for any stray lexiles and return them to the library, it would be much
appreciated.
