St Lawrence amp Mary Immaculate Parish Balcatta
Parish Priest Fr Emil Ciecierega SDS Assistant Priest Fr Adam Babinski SDS
The devotion to the Sacred Heart (also known as the Most
Sacred Heart of Jesus Sacratissimum Cor Iesu in Latin) is
one of the most widely practiced and well-known Catholic
devotions taking the heart of the resurrected Body as the
representation of the love by Jesus Christ God which is his
heart pierced on the Cross and in the texts of the New
Testament is revealed to us as Gods boundless and
passionate love for mankind In the Roman Catholic
Church the liturgical Solemnities of the Most Sacred Heart
of Jesus is celebrated the first Friday after the octave
of Corpus Christi or 19 days after Pentecost Sunday[
The popularization of this devotion in its modern form is
derived from a Roman Catholic nun from France
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque who said she learned the
devotion from Jesus during a series of apparitions to her
between 1673 and 1675[3] and later in the 19th century
from the mystical revelations of another Roman Catholic
nun in Portugal Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart a
religious of the Good Shepherd who requested in the name
of Christ that Pope Leo XIII consecrate the entire world to
the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Learning at Home Tips
Continuing on from the last few weeks and given that children spend as much as 75 of their time at home those children whose parents support their learning tend to be more motivated engaged and enthusiastic in school and are more likely to achieve their full potential Making Mistakes is Okay Kids often see mistakes in a very negative way Foster a positive outlook through openly chatting about your own mistakes - lsquoOne mistake I made today washelliprsquo Encourage your child to talk about any mistakes they have made and help them think of solutions Cooking Possibly one of the easiest ways to help support your child across a range of subjects is through cooking or baking Kids love cooking and by getting them to help you prepare meals you can incorporate learning without having to find any extra time Board Games Playing board games such as lsquoSnakes amp Laddersrsquo lsquoLudorsquo lsquoJunior Scrabblersquo and lsquoMonopolyrsquo are fun ways of teaching kids how to share take turns and how to be a good winner or loser They also develop numeracy and literacy skills Other games such as lsquoHangmanrsquo and lsquoI Spyrsquo help with spelling and phonetic awareness
PARISH CHILDRENrsquoS LITURGY What a wonderful turnout for the childrenrsquos mass last Sunday On behalf of the parish a big thank you
to all the parents for bringing your children along they read and sang beautifully and made our Sunday
celebration special We have one more week of childrenrsquos liturgy for the term The next childrenrsquos
mass will be on Sunday 28 July This is the first weekend after the school holidays It would be great
to have as many children as possible attend and participate so keep the date in mind

of our members Natalie Kathy and Maria will not be continuing on next year as their daughters begin
their exciting adventures in high school I have also made the decision to step down as president for
next year so I can focus on other areas of my life and family It has been a rewarding and sometimes
challenging job which we are ready to pass on to the next generation of gracious volunteers in our
wonderful school community Without a netball committee our small club will not be able to continue
so we really urge you to consider this opportunity seriously if you would like to see this great sport
continue in our school Get together with a group of friends and it makes the job so much more
enjoyable We are here to guide you over the coming months and new year
