EARLY DEADLINES for NOVEMBER and DECEMBER

    Due to holiday closures,

pls. send BULLETIN SUBMISSIONS to [email protected]

    as soon as possible.

Articles are subject to approval and available space.

The main theme of the three

readings is an invitation to live in

such a way that we make the best

use of the talents God has given

us, so that at the hour of our

    death Our Lord will say:

“Well done, my good and faithful

servant!... Come and share the joy

of your master” (Matthew 25: 21).

    FROM THE DESK OF

    FATHER ABRAHAM

The Scripture readings summarized: The first reading suggests that we should

be as diligent and industrious as a loyal and faithful wife, in the use of our

God-given gifts and talents with “the fear of the Lord.” Unlike the one-talent

man, she takes her gifts and “brings forth good, not evil”; she “reaches her

hands to the poor and extends her arms to the needy,” and she is a portrait of

responsible readiness. In today’s second reading, St. Paul advises us as “children

of the Light” to “stay alert and sober,” living in such a way that we will be ready

when Jesus does come, and will encourage and build each other up as we wait

for the “Day of the Lord.” Today’s Gospel asks us if we are using our talents

and gifts primarily to serve God and doing everything, we can to carry out

God’s will. The parable of the talents challenges us to do something positive,

constructive and life-affirming with our talents here and now.

Messages: 1) We need to trust God enough to make use of the gifts and abilities

we have been given. We may be especially talented in teaching children or

cooking meals or repairing homes or programming computers.

    2) We need to make use of our talents in our parish. This means that we should

be always willing to share our abilities in creative worship in the Church and in

various ministries of our parish, such as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist,

Lector, Usher, Catechism teacher, singer in the choir, volunteer and member of

one or more parish organizations and community outreach programs.

    3) We need to "trade" with our talent of Christian Faith: All of us in the Church

today have received at least one talent namely, the gift of Faith. Our

responsibility is not just to preserve and “keep” the Faith, but to work with it.

We need to promote and add value to Faith by living it out. The way to

preserve the Faith, or any other talent that God has given us, is to put it to

work and help it bear fruit.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM COVID-19. Please be aware that all gatherings pose a risk of

infection and that all the protocols of social distancing

as well as hand sanitizing are to be followed. Masks are

most important during these days and should be worn

on parish property. All Catholics remain dispensed from the

obligation to attend Mass at this time. Please take all the necessary

steps to protect yourself and others.

RCIA Participants Continue in Their Faith Journey

Our St. Jude RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) will

celebrate the Rite of Acceptance during Nov. 15 Noon Mass.

This rite is for persons who have not been baptized and are interested

in the Catholic faith. Last Sunday, Nov. 8, the Rite of Welcoming

was celebrated for persons already baptized and are interested in

the Catholic faith. These important milestones mark their willingness and desire to

continue their faith journey and God’s will for each of them. It also introduces

these candidates and catechumens to the assembly so that each may pray and

    support them along the way.

Know someone interested in the Catholic faith?

    Contact Della Doss, [email protected].

“In 2017, Pope Francis suggested the Catholic Church set aside one day each year

when communities can “reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel.”

He designated this day as the World Day of the Poor, and it will be celebrated on

the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time each year.” (crs.org/get-involved/learn/resource-

    center/world-day-poor-resources)

This year’s theme is “Stretch forth your hand to the poor.” As we approach the

season of many celebrations, especially pray for those who whose livelihoods have

been impacted by the Coronavirus and encourage a deeper sense of generosity and

    brotherhood amongst us.

“In order to perform an act of worship acceptable to the Lord, we have to recognize that each person, even the poorest

and most contemptible, is made in the image of God.” Pope Francis, Fourth World Day of the Poor, Nov. 15, 2020

Parishioners are invited to take tags from the St. Jude

Giving Tree located in the narthex. Each tag contains

the items wished for by people in our area who are in

need. St. Jude helps families for Christmas through the

care counselors at several local elementary schools, through

our People Helping People Ministry and through 2 local

Veterans’ homes. Anyone is welcome to take a tag, but

PLEASE remember the tag you take may represent the

only gifts that person will receive this Christmas.

    HOW IT WORKS

    1. Take a tag from the tree.

    2. Take a picture of the tag in case it is misplaced.

    3. Purchase the requested items.

    4. Place the unwrapped gift(s) in a CHRISTMAS gift bag with the tag.

    5. Return the purchased gifts to the Reception Hall by Saturday, Dec. 5. Gifts received after the deadline are not guaranteed to make it to the person they are intended for.

This year, the St. Jude Giving Tree will be limited to local families only. If you are able, please extend your generosity by making a monetary donation or by volunteering to sort gifts through Catholic Charities of Dallas. Please go to: ccdallas.org/Christmas-giving.

The use of the Christmas tree is relatively modern. Its origins are found in the medieval mystery plays that depicted the tree of paradise and the Christmas light or candle that symbolized Christ, the Light of the world. According to custom, the Christmas tree is set up just before Christmas and may remain in place until the Solemnity of Epiphany.
