Does the world realize that it is waiting? As we go about all of
the busyness of our lives and entertain our distractions, there are many holes
and gaps in our lives that need to be filled. We are always wanting more, but
not really sure what that “more” needs to be. Fulfillment, happiness,
contentment, and true satisfactions are fleeting occurrences and often come to
us in illusive ways. What we think is the ultimate fix to our anxious emptiness
really is only a fancy trend that we entertain. The world does not realize any
more today than it did over two thousand years ago that it is waiting for a
Savior. We need a Savior. We need to see and embrace the God who has
broken into history and become one with us. It is this union of God and man
that sets us on a straight path, orders our relationships, establishes proper focus
and goals, and tells us whose kingdom we really are meant to serve. The world
does not know how truly lost it is. Do you realize how lost you are and that the
One you need most is here among us and within your grasp?
REFLECT AND RESPOND TO SCRIPTURE
First Reading: Today’s reading from Second Samuel narrates the context in
which God establishes his covenantal promise to King David around the year
1000 B.C. In the birth of Jesus, God fulfills his covenant with David. What
does this teach us about the idea of “salvation history?”
Second Reading: Paul concludes his letter to the Romans with a hymn of
praise to God for the long-awaited revelation that all are saved and justified
through faith in Christ. In what ways are you praising God during this season
of Advent?
Gospel: Today’s Gospel reading records the angel Gabriel’s announcement to
Mary of the upcoming birth of Christ. Mary’s acceptance of God’s will for her
life (“May it be done to me according to your word.”) models for all of us
unconditional faith. How can we encourage others to embrace such faith?

Parishioners Help Reach 2020 St. Jude Giving Tree Goal
Thank you to everyone who helped make the St. Jude Giving
Tree Project successful this year! Despite the many challenges due
to the pandemic, our St. Jude Parishioners came through for families
in need in our community. We are thankful to everyone who
purchased gifts and gift cards, donated money to purchase bikes and
helmets or volunteered of their time sorting and distributing gifts. Through the
incredible giving spirit of our parish, the St. Jude Giving Tree was able to bring
Christmas to 134 local families and 2 veteran’s facilities in Bonham. Included in this
number, 27 children received bikes and helmets thanks to generous monetary
donations. In total, 513 individuals will have Christmas presents under the tree this
year thanks to the St. Jude Giving Tree! God Bless and Merry Christmas!

God of surprises,
today we hear about the surprise that Mary experienced. She is pregnant with your Son!
Help our family to be obedient to your surprises, however they may spring up in our lives. All of your gifts work for the benefit of your people.
When we light this final candle on our wreath, let us bring your surprise gift of love to our neighbors and friends.
We ask this through Christ, who is the ultimate surprise gift to the world. Amen.
The fourth and last candle of Advent is in the color
purple and represents LOVE. Let us ask God to bless
our family on this final Sunday of Advent:

2021 NEW CLASS OFFERINGS
CATHOLICS AWAKENED Mondays, Jan. 11 to Feb. 22, 2021 (7-weeks) 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm, Parish Hall
Deacon Ken Steponaitis would like to invite you to a
7-week series he calls, Catholics Awakened. As you may
know, Deacon Ken, at one point, considered himself to be
an atheist. His awakening brought him such great peace in his life. In this series you
will learn his story but more importantly this series is intended to help you seriously
evaluate your own faith relationship and to get to know not only what the Church
teaches but, maybe more importantly, why. Many subject, theological, historical,
spiritual and controversial will be candidly discussed.
No matter your levels of understanding of the faith, your involvement with the
Church, or even if you have fallen away from the Church, we invite you to awaken
your knowledge and love for Catholicism. For more information, please go to
catholicsawakened.org or email [email protected].
Registration is required, please go to stjudeparish.com/adult-studies. We apologize
that we will not be able to offer Nursery services at this time for those attending our
onsite classes.
SCIENCE AND THE CATHOLIC FAITH Thursdays, Jan. 13 to Feb. 11 (5 weeks) 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, via Zoom
This course, facilitated by Dr. Dave Catlett, will examine
the interaction of science and natural philosophy with
Catholic teaching against the backdrop of key historical episodes when scientific
understanding has resulted in a reassessment of humans’ perception of their place in
the cosmos: heliocentricity (Galileo), evolution and natural selection (Darwin), and
the expanding universe (Einstein, Hubble, Lemaitre). Ultimately, the course will
challenge the notion of conflict between scientific progress and Christian belief. Some
familiarity with modern science is helpful to grasp the significance of the evolving
dialogue between science and theology. However, the class is not a science class per
se. The intent of the course is to provide students with perspective to reflect on their
own path forward as persons of faith living in a world in which science and
technology permeate almost all aspects of our lives.
For information on the Zoom class, please go to stjudeparish.com/adult-studies.
