ST JOSEPH’S WOODBURN

Dear Families,

Throughout the world Christians are observing the week leading up to Easter with special devotion. Holy Week is the final time of preparation for the greatest feast day of our Church year - EASTER.

The events of next week follow the last days of Jesus‟ life leading up to his death. On the weekend our readings, songs and actions recall the triumphant entry of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem. The Last Supper and the arrest of Jesus are commemorated on Holy Thursday, his trial and crucifixion on Saturday evening/Sunday morning.

As Christians we are called to celebrate these great events by joining with our faith community to celebrate the Christian Passover, coming from death to life in the spirit of the risen Christ, and finally joining with the whole Church in proclaiming the great ALLELUIA. Details of St Joseph‟s Parish Mass times for Holy Week and Easter are being sent home today with this Newsletter. Please try to get along to these services with your children at this, the most important time in the Church year.

SCHOOL HOLY WEEK CELEBRATIONS This week students have been re-enacting the events of Holy Week. On Monday we saw the Infants‟ re-enactment of Jesus‟ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and yesterday we saw the washing of the feet and the Last Supper by our Stage Two students. Today Stage Three acted out the Stations of the Cross.

ANZAC DAY MARCH Advance Notice Anzac Day this year falls in the last Thursday of the school holi-days. I fear that this may cause some issues with our attend-ance at the Dawn Service and the Anzac March in Woodburn as students will still be on holi-days. St Joseph’s has always been extremely well represented and I hope that this will be the case this year. I ask that you give careful consider-ation to your child’s participation in this very spe-cial celebration and I urge as many students as possible to again represent St Joseph’s in these community events. The RSL Club has again asked that we lead the National Anthem at both of these services. Details are outlined below. Dawn Service: Line up at 5.15 am outside the library at Evans Head. March begins at approximately 5.20 am. Full school uniform (minus hat) to be worn.

Woodburn March: Please meet our school group at 9.50 am at the Post Office. March begins at 10.00 am Full school uniform and hat please. If your child/children are able to participate please complete the note at the end of this Newsletter and return to school by Wednesday, 10th April.

ST JOSEPH’S FACEBOOK PAGE St Joseph‟s now has an official Facebook page. This page will be used to advertise upcoming events, to alert parents to postponements and cancellations, to remind parents of school events etc. If you are on Facebook have a look—we are open to comments and sugges-tions to make it more user friendly. A big thank you to Miss Egan for publishing this page for us.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY

On Monday, 29th April all staff will participate in a Pro-fessional Development Day with St Joseph‟s Coraki and St Joseph‟s, Alstonville with the imminent launch of the Australian Curriculum. This will be a student free day.

SRC FUNDRAISER The SRC have organised a Cinema Day fundraiser for the last day of this term. There will be stalls at recess selling popcorn, cakes and ice-creams before the stu-dents will move into one of the three „cinemas‟ set up for the day. To assist with our stalls we are asking our infants students to provide small bags of popcorn (in zip seal bags), our Stage Two students to provide cakes, slices or biscuits and our Stage three students are or-ganising ice-cream and cones. These will all be sold for

50 cents each. Whatever is lefto-ver will be sold at lunch time. The students may wear casual clothes on the day and will be charged a gold coin for the privi-lege. Thank you to our SRC for there work in organising this day for our students.

VISITORS PROTOCOL It is both a legal requirement and a safety issue that all visitors report to the office and sign in and out in the visitor‟s book. If you are staying at the school you will also be issued with a visitor‟s badge. This is necessary in the unlikely event of a fire, evacuation, lockdown etc but more importantly for the safety of the students in our care. Thank you for your support in this very important matter.
