A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents,

Last Wednesday we celebrated with the parish community Ash Wednesday which marks the first day of Lent, a season of fasting, repentance and prayer. Thanks to Mrs Hawkes, Mrs Divola and Ms Leamon who put much work into a fantastic celebration and to the children for their fantastic participation.

The Red Cliffs Schools swimming carnival is on tonight at 5:45 p.m. at the Red Cliffs Swimming Pool. Good luck to Annamieke, Abby, Cooper, Riley. G, Rustyn, Ella, Katie and Taylah who are participating.

From next week Prep students will need to attend school every day. If children are struggling to adjust to the full time format, please don’t hesitate to talk to Mrs Williams.

RE & PARISH NEWS Year 5/6 Class Mass: Sunday 26th March, Year 5/6 will lead the Parish Mass. Sacramental Program: The session over the long weekend is the Fr Ray Sanchez session described below for adult faith development. Parish Mission: Fr Ray Sanchez will give a Parish Mission during Lent this year from Sunday March 12 to Friday March 17. Fr Ray attended a Mission in Mildura last year with many parents attending from our Sunraysia primary schools and giving him rave reviews with the Church often being filled with many young parents. We strongly encourage parents, but particularly those of children who are celebrating their Sacraments to attend the Tuesday session on ‘Sharing our Faith with our Children’ and the Friday session ‘Reconciliation and Eucharist’. These sessions are held from 7pm-9pm at the Sacred Heart Church, Mildura. Further details are available from the Office.

GENERAL NEWS & UPDATES Breakfast Club Roster: Tuesday - Sarra Napoli, Wednesday - Jodie Pascoe, Thursday - Christina Everett, Friday - Fiona Diamantis

Library: If you have any overdue library books, please return these to the Library as soon as possible or see Mrs Needham on Tuesday. The Library has some new books which are now available for borrowing. Some titles include: Fiction: A most magical girl; Elizabeth and Zenobia; When the Lyrebird calls. Picture Story: Blue sky, Yellow Kite, Molly & Mae … and many more. Please return your overdue books so you can borrow these awesome new books.

Hot Cross Bun Drive: Community Club is again running a Hot Cross Bun Fundraiser through Banjo’s Mildura as it proved very popular last year. Order Forms are being sent home to each family today and are due back with money by 15th March. Orders can be collected 24th March.

Easter Raffle: Community Club are once again doing an Easter Raffle. Please be selling tickets and donating quality chocolate Easter Eggs.

Parent & Teacher Interviews & PSG Meetings: ‘Parent & Teacher Interviews’ will be held on Monday 20th March and Tuesday 21st March from 2pm-5.30pm. Parents will get an opportunity to share information about their child and to look at learning goals that have been set for their child. For our funded students who need to attend PSG meetings they will be held on Wednesday 22nd March from 8am-5pm. Information sheets with instructions to book your meeting time is being sent home today. Please contact the office if you have any queries.

Pastoral Care / Chaplaincy Forms: There are several families who have not returned a signed Chaplaincy / Pastoral Care Form - Students who have not returned their forms cannot take part in the specific support programs Felicity is running with our students, such as Drumbeat group and Managing Feelings programs. Felicity is also available daily to support students individually or in pairs if something has happened to upset or worry them. As it is not possible to predict when something might happen that upsets your child, it is much simpler if the form is already in place. Felicity or the class teacher will contact you and let you know if there needs to be any follow up in regard to the child’s concerns.

Irymple swimming club: Annual Primary School Swim Meet is on again this year. Thursday 17th March, starting at 5.30pm at the Irymple swimming pool Students will need to enter online at www.irympleswimmingclub.com.au. More information can be found on our school notice board.

Sunraysia South Division Tennis: Congratulations to both Alex and Ivan who competed in this competition last Tuesday. They should both be very proud of their achievements. Alex finished with a 3rd place overall and Ivan a 4th. Well done boys.

JUNIOR UNIT NEWS & UPDATES

The Junior Unit would like to offer their sincere congratulations to Riley, Hannah and Violet following their Baptism!

This week the Year 1-3 students begin their unit of work on addition having completed their first Place Value unit for 2017. The preps continue to work on place value and counting.

On Fridays P/1 are learning about 3D shapes. It would be great if students could bring in real life examples of cones, cubes, spheres, cylinders or rectangular prisms to create a 3D shape Museum. Any ‘special’ items brought in will be returned at the end of Term.

Please keep sending in donations for the recycled art project. Grade 3 parents are welcome to come along to their iPad Program Launch this Wednesday from 2.20-3.20pm. Sorry for the late notice in regards to this but children are very excited about the prospect of receiving their iPad.

SENIOR UNIT NEWS & UPDATES

Well done to all the students who worked hard this past week despite some very big changes with teaching staff. With Mrs Manuel and Mrs Hawkes away, they were very pleased to hear that the students behaved exceptionally.

This week children will begin Addition in numeracy and begin their new spelling program, ‘Spelling Mastery’. This approach is rooted in oral language and spelling patterns and we are excited to see how it can assist us to be even better spellers in 2017.

Well done to grade 5/6 class on their assembly presentation last week. It was wonderful to see your musical talents on stage once again!

The pancakes we had were yummy and fluffy,

I gobbled mine up in one big hurry.

I wanted more but I couldn’t be sure,

people were spilling them all over the floor!

We’re at school to learn but I like pancakes better,

I’m writing this poem while Ellesciah writes a letter.

This has to be my favourite day of school so far,

I think Gabby S would have preferred a Mars Bar!
