59, and is limited to a single full meal with 2 smaller meals,
and nothing between meals except liquids. Abstinence from
meat applies to all Catholics age 14 and older. All Fridays of
Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Mass with ashes
distribution on Ash Wednesday will be celebrated at 8:30am

Mark Your Calendars Now for a great Tuesday evening
event in March for a visit from the Notre Dame Handbell and

stop on their spring tour. There are 45 members of the

night, before boarding their buses on Wednesday morning to
return to South Bend. If you can take two or more
musicians home with you after the concert and bring
them back on Wednesday morning, please call Kathie at
440-213-4215 ASAP. We will be serving them a meal
following the concert, so all you would need to do is offer
them a light breakfast in the morning. Thanks so much for
considering being part of our Parish Hospitality towards
these college students!

Father Ron’s Corner…
I really enjoy the Season of Lent. I particularly appreciate
the reflective quality of the season. We are encouraged to
intensify our Prayer, Fasting and Giving Alms. In order to
facilitate our Lenten “effort,” we will be participating in
“Operation Rice Bowl” which is headed by Catholic Relief
Services. Also, we are offering a daily reflection book
published by the Archdiocese of Chicago’s - Liturgical
Training Publications. It will be a great guide through the
Lent, Paschal Triduum and Easter Seasons. Remember that
we fast not to lose weight or some other physical reason but
rather to “make more room” for God in our lives. We are to
replace the added “space” in our lives with a big heaping
portion of God. It is always good to take action. Many of us
grew up “giving up” something. That certainly is a good
discipline and one I would encourage. But it is also fine to
engage in something new and positive - for example, you
could spend a day volunteering at “A Day of Caring”,
organized by our Project Outreach Director, Steve Krajny. I
am planning to write at least one “thank you” note every day
along with keeping my life as clutter free as possible. We
will see how that goes. Greater joy, peace and charity is the
outcome of Lenten and any spiritual practice.
Please schedule time for the Stations of the Cross on Friday
evenings at 7pm or time in the church or chapel for quiet
prayer and of course at our Friday Fish Fries from 5pm to
8pm.
Our Ash Wednesday Schedule is Mass at 8:30am and 7pm
with ashes distribution;
Holy Spirit : Mass at 8:30am & 7pm; Communion Service at
12:00, all with ashes distribution;
St. Raphael : 7:45, 9:15, 11am Mass; Prayer Service at
4:30pm; Mass at 7:30pm, all with ashes distribution.
I am very much looking forward to my first Lent, Holy Week
and Easter at St. Joseph as your new pastor. (I will not be
able to say that much longer.)
May God richly bless you this Lent through your practice of
prayer, fasting and giving alms.
Peace,
Father Ron

He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to
one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and
