St. Joseph CYO is Sponsoring a CYO Sports Physical
Night on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00pm in St. Joseph Hall
and school using MobilMedical. The cost is $20/physical. All
students athletes must have a physical to be eligible to play
CYO sports. If performed on May 21, eligible students are
covered for CYO sports until June, 2015. (covers all sports—
fall 2014-through spring 2015) Students from second to
seventh grade considering playing any CYO sport next year
should strongly consider getting the physical now to avoid
paperwork delays later!

It’s that time again! The Garden Club meets on Wednesdays
at 6:30pm from spring through fall. For those who cannot
garden on Wednesdays, assignments to an area can be made

Due to Fr. Scott Goodfellow’s First Mass here today, our
Hospitality session has been cancelled so we can get set up

Are You Celebrating Your 50th (+) Anniversary?
The Department of Marriage & Family Ministry, the Office
for Worship, and the Cathedral of St. John are pleased to
announce the 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration on
Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Cathedral with the Most Rev.
Richard G. Lennon as the celebrant. Mass time is 2:30pm. If
you are celebrating 50 years or more this year you are invited
to register by calling Peggy Murphy: 933-3152 or 653-5611.
Deadline to register is Monday, June 23. A confirmation
letter will be sent in early July to those who register, along
with instructions, map and driving/parking directions.

Looking for PSR Catechists & Aides for the 2014-15 Year
Would you enjoy sharing your faith with the children of our
parish? Our parish PSR program needs classroom catechists
for Preschool and Kindergarten and aides for grades 2, 4, 6, 7
& 8. We are also in need of morning and evening volunteers
who will help with a weekly craft station. Preschool–grade 5
classes meet every Sunday from 9:30-10:45am and Grades 6-
8 meet every other Sunday from 6-8:00pm. Make a
difference...come join our team and be a part of this
important ministry at St. Joseph. If you are interested, call

Race for Grace! Mr. Steve Stahl, St. Joseph School PE
teacher, will run a 50K race in celebration of his 50th
birthday on June 7. This is beyond a marathon - over 31
miles! He is fundraising for the race on behalf of Grace
Vinesky, SJS graduate and Magnificat HS senior. Grace was
diagnosed with Stage 2A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in
November, and has undergone chemotherapy since then.
Grace and her family are parishioners. She has been an
inspiration to all, and has handled this situation with Grace!!!

Father Ron’s Corner…
Congratulations to Reverend Father Scott Goodfellow, MA,
MDiv, who is now Presbyter of the Diocese of
Cleveland. We congratulate him, our parish, the diocese and
the entire church for we will all be blessed by his priestly
ministry. I know Scott and his family Geoff, Deb and Lizzy
very much appreciate all your love and support along the
way!
I am so grateful to have been a part of Scott’s final year of
preparation for ministry.
I will resume my “corner” of the bulletin next weekend.

spring campaign of 40 Days for Life. God has abundantly
blessed the 40 Days for Life mission and 728 babies, mothers
and families were spared from abortion where 40 Days for
Life campaigns were conducted this spring, including 7 in
Cleveland/Painesville. We look forward to praying with
you in the 2014 fall campaign, September 24 through

Congratulations to St. Joseph School Students Ryan
Whitford, Grace Zaubi, and Olivia Modarelli, winners in
LIFEWORKS OHIO 2014 Respect Life Art, Essay and
Poetry Contest. Ryan Whitford and Grace Zaubi both
received Honorable Mention in the 8th Grade Essay contest,
and Olivia Modarelli won First Place in the 7th grade Poetry
category. This contest allows students in grades 4-12 express
their commitment to life through art, essay, and poetry. There
were over 2,500 entries from 48 schools and churches.
Al Jana Caravan # 159, Order of Alhambra will have
their Canister Drive here this weekend after all Masses. The
money raised goes to assisting mentally challenged children.
They provide support and financial resources to enhance the
quality of life for these children. Thank you so much for your
generosity!
Never Alone, our Bereavement Support Group will meet
on June 1 at 1:00pm in St. Joseph Hall. We normally meet on
the first Sunday of every month, but have decided to have no
meeting in July due to the 4th of July Holiday. We will
decide at our June 1 meeting whether or not we will also take
the month of August off. Watch the bulletin for further
details. ALL are invited to join us if you are grieving in any
way, whether the grief is fresh or old. You don’t have to

Hospice of the Western Reserve Walk to Remember
will be held on Sunday, June 8, 8am-12:00 noon. Over 2,000
participants are expected to enjoy a leisurely walk through
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo celebrating the memory of their
loved ones. The event benefits patients and families cared for
by Hospice of the Western Reserve. Registration is $20 for
an individual and $60 for a family. Children’s admission is
$10. Registration includes all-day admission to the Zoo and
Rainforest, T-shirts, snacks and live musical entertainment.

14th Annual Race for the Place, to celebrate National
Cancer Survivor’s Day will be held on Sunday, June 1 at
Beachwood Place. This will benefit The Gathering Place, a
Caring Community for those touched by cancer. Registration
begins at 7:30am followed by a Cancer Survivor’s Ceremony
at 8:45am. 5K/1mile race begins at 9am. Honorary Cancer
Survivor Chairperson, Jim Donovan, News Co-Anchor and
Sports Anchor for WKYC, Channel 3 will be present. Get
your teams together for this race—Captains of 25 or more,
and individuals raising $500 or more will be entered into a
drawing to win a $1,000 gift card courtesy of Beachwood

Are You Working Towards an Annulment? The process
of being granted an annulment of your marriage is long and
confusing. One of our parishioners, Pat Daw, went through
the process herself, and is also retired from the Tribunal
Office after 10 years there. Pat has volunteered to talk with
people about this process, or act as a procurator/advocate.

Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club will hold its Memorial
Day Plant Sale on Monday, May 26 at 8am at United Church
of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd. Selling hundreds of very
reasonably priced perennials, houseplants, herbs and other
plants gently dug from the club gardens and potted for your
gardens. Come and shop, then stay for the Memorial Day

Pro-Life Ministry Has Changed Our Meeting Date to the
third Thursday of every month at 7:00pm. We are looking to
add new members to our group, so hopefully this will be a
convenient time for you to join us! Our next meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, June 19 at 7:00pm in St. Joseph

options! The summer programs offer respite and provide life-
enhancing activities for children and adults in a Catholic

15th Annual Blue Streaks Through River 5K/1Mile Fun
Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, May 25 to raise money
for Magnificat families who need help with school-related
expenses, such as lunches and retreat fees. 5K starts at
8:15am, and the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:45. New

The 32nd Cleveland Charismatic Conference sponsored
by Catholic Renewal Ministries will be held on July 18 & 19
at Magnificat High School in Rocky River. Guest Speakers
will be Patti Mansfield and Deacon Ralph Poyo and local
speaker Michele TePas Harrison. The theme is Gifted to
