Spiritual Notes:The Sanhedrin is the religious court in biblical Israel. The apostles brought before the court for “teaching in the name,” reply that they would rather obey God than human authority. So great is their faith in Jesus and the resurrection that they are willing to suffer for “the name.” This text reminds us that from the earliest days of the church, the gospel divided people of faith. Jesus’ death on the cross is a scandal for some, but for others, it is a sign of God’s grace freely given to us.The Book of Revelation is probably the most misquoted and misunderstood text in the Bible. Today’s text speaks of the heavenly court, in which “countless” hosts along with the angels and the symbolic four living creatures surround the throne of God. They sing, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain,” acknowledging Christ’s victory over the powers of sin and death. Because of His sacrifice we receive a share in God’s life. This is what our Easter faith teaches us. Most scholars consider John 21 an addition written by someone other than the original evangelist; its style and vocabulary are distinct from the rest of the book. Today’s text narrates another appearance by the risen Christ. The episode, which takes place in Galilee rather than Judea, is reminiscent of the call of Simon Peter in Luke’s Gospel; it functions as a recognition story: the disciples come to realize that the stranger who calls them is the risen one. Their miraculous catch of 153 fish is symbolic of the mission of the church, guided and protected by Christ. The number of known species of fish in Jesus’ day was 153 so the number represents a universal catch. Because the net did not break, not one of them were lost. For Reflection: Does my faith enable me to stand firm in the face of trials? When in my life have I had a recognition story only gradually coming to realize that Christ is present in me?

In Our ParishPlease keep in your prayers, Sandy Deetz, age 74, who died on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. May her soul and all the souls of our faithful departed rest in peace. Please keep Sandy’s family in your prayers.

And, please keep in your prayers, Duane Allison, age 84, father of Deacon Mark Allison, who died on Sunday, April 3, 2016. May his soul and all the souls of our faithful departed rest in peace. Please keep Deacon Mark and his family in your prayers.

Please remember in your prayers, all the sick, homebound, and recovering in our parish. Also, pray for those coping with physical or mental conditions. Please include all those on our prayer lists who have asked for our prayers, and those who have no one to pray for them.

The Jubilee Year of MercyDecember 8, 2015 – November 20, 2016

“It is a favorable time to heal wounds, a time to offer everyone the way of Forgiveness and Reconciliation.”

~ Pope Francis

Spiritual Works of Mercy: Seventh spiritual work of mercy – praying for the living and the dead. (Part 2 – for the living) Everyone on earth needs spiritual assistance and support in their journey towards eternity. In John 17 we hear Jesus uttering his great prayer for his disciples and for all who will

believe in him. If Jesus prays for us, then we must pray for ourselves and others. St. Paul tells us, “First of all, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for all men…” (1 Tim 2:1) It is important that we should pray for our own spiritual welfare – that we will grow in holiness and be saved. “In a word, you must be made perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Mt. 5:48) Also, we should pray for others’ spiritual welfare for the same purpose. Then we can begin to pray for other intentions for ourselves and others: for health and earthly well-being, success in educational studies, safe and enjoyablevacations, financialsupport, findingajob, etc.Praying for the dying is of special importance. Also, Jesus instructs us, “My command to you is: love your enemies, pray for your persecutors.” (Mt. 5:44) Jesus tells us, “Ask, andyouwillreceive.Seek,andyouwillfind.Knock,andit will be opened to you.” (Mt. 7:7) We must remember that our prayers should always be based on and conform to the will of God. And we should graciously accept whatever God grants us, knowing that He always does what is best for us.

Mercy grows within us as we reflect on how God has been merciful to us.

TCC is Building on ExcellenceTuscarawas Central Catholic prides itself on offering a superior education, rooted in the Catholic faith, which is affordable and open to all. In an effort to prudently plan for the future of our Jr./Sr. High School a planning process called Building On Excellence has been initiated with a completion date of early May 2016.

The Building On Excellence program calls for a constructive review of numerous key areas which make up the overall “Central Catholic experience.” Through a generous commitment of a TCC benefactor a professional consulting firm, Field DevelopmentConsultants, Inc (FDC), has been retained to assist the school in engaging the community and facilitating this planning process. Since 1993 FDC has partnered with over 100 mid-western Catholic schools assisting with planning and advancement programs.Participation requires attendance at two meetings: Monday, April 18 and Tuesday, April 26. The meetings will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and conclude by 9:00 p.m. Please feel free to contact Scott Power (Ph:330-343-3302, Email: [email protected]) if you would like to be considered for participation in the Building On Excellence process.
