It's time to start gathering your gently used clothing (especially children's),
kitchen, bath, bedroom and garden supplies. Don't forget that many folks are
shopping for good used furniture, as well. Toys, books, music, all types of
appliances and electronics, and holiday and year-round decorative items.
We will start receiving the items at St.
John’s starting on Thursday, October 22 in the gym. For more information please contact Nancy Stevens at 941-321-7168.
The money that is raised by the Youth will go towards camps and the UMW will
split their half between ”SOLVE
Homes” (which offers housing, mentorship, and community for pregnant women of all ages in need and Jim Russo Prison Ministries. What a blessing every
penny earned will be.
Bring all the kids out for a fun time at
St. John’s. You’ll want to be sure to
decorate your trunks for our big contest.
We will be having a contest for the best
costume and best trunk.

October Mission Focus: Miracle League
“And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to him
(Jesus), “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell
you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” -Luke 19:39-40
This doesn’t happen very often, but I want to encourage all of you to make a commitment to go to the movies. There are a number of must see films coming our way. I pray we see them, and take others to see
them with us. “War Room,” a film currently playing and was for a time the number one motion picture in
America, deals with the power of prayer, and the fact that we
cannot fight the battles that belong only to God. It is very well done, very moving, and very true to the gospel. Don’t miss this film!
Several others are on the way. “Woodlawn” deals with a
fragmented high school football team that experiences a renewal
because of a life-changing encounter with Christ. “Captive,” like “Woodlawn,” is based on a true story about a woman who was held captive in her home by dangerous criminal hiding from the authorities. God intervenes in
an incredible way. The movie “Risen” is a fictional account of Roman authorities who are desperately searching for the body of Jesus in order to squash a potential uprising.
I am amazed that films like this
are being produced. I pray that we will support them so that the movie industry will be encour-aged to make more. We complain a lot about Hollywood, and sometimes for good reason.
But when good and even great
If you would like to contact one of our staff members :
films are released, let’s send them a signal that they are
finally producing something we will support.
When Jesus made his grand entry into Jerusalem, there was a lot of shouting and ex-citement. The religious powers-that-be didn’t like it and tried to quiet everyone down. But Jesus said that if his followers
did not shout, then the rocks would take their place. I’m delighted that Christ is being honored and extolled in the movie theather. But we must not allow the movies to take
our place. Let’s share out loud
the love, grace and glory of Jesus. Hey, if you read this preacher feature, will you send me an e-mail and let me know? Thanks!
The Miracle League of Manaso-ta is a non-profit organization
dedicated to providing an opportunity for all children to
play baseball, regardless of their ability. For the 14,000 school-aged children with disabilities in Sarasota and Manatee counties, the Miracle League of Manasota has built a synthetically surfaced baseball
field and all the requisite amenities at a site that serves children from both counties. For the first time, children challenged by any form of disability are empowered to
enjoy the joys and thrills of baseball regardless of their
ability to play. Saturday, October 17 at 7:30
a.m. will be our day out on the field to support these kids. This is one of our favorite mis-sion organizations to be a part of! You WILL be blessed as you're paired up with a "buddy",
or ball player in the Miracle League. You will help them run the bases, field the balls, but most importantly get to know them. If you haven't been a part
of this before, I promise you'll
want to keep helping out in the future. Give up an hour or two of sleep and join us for a
great day of baseball! We have sign-up sheets in the lobby for you to sign-up on to be a part of the team. In addition we will be taking monetary donations for this wonderful organization.
Please make checks payable to St. John’s with a notation that it is for the Miracle League.
We are so happy to brag about the Youth and the people of St. John’s! What a great job you are doing going out into the streets to be the hands and feet of Jesus! Going to the streets to feed the homeless and pray with them has been such a rewarding experience for all who have joined.
We welcome you to join us in one of three ways to help this ministry: 1) Hit the streets with us on the last Saturday of every month 2) Donate food (pop-top lids are a must please) or money to help us to
purchase the food. 3) Pray for this mission and that God will use each of us as a tool for His
word.
If you have any questions please contact the office at 941-925-2661
