Pastor’s Column December 4th and 5th we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent. Please pick up an Advent/Christmas Book at our church exits. The book contains daily prayers and reflections for the 27 days of Advent and the 16 days of the Christmas Season. John the Baptist invites us to “Prepare the Way of the Lord.” In prayer we prepare the way for Christ to be reborn in us at Christmas. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary is Holyday of Obligation this year. Everyone is required to attend Mass. We will have a 4:00 p.m. Vigil Mass on Tuesday, December 7th. We will have an 8:30 a.m. Mass and a 7:00 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, December 8th. The 8:30 a.m. Mass will be livestreamed. We are not having an Advent Communal Penance Service this year in light of COVID 19 precautions. Instead I will hear additional confessions 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. to 8:00 pm on Friday December 17th and on Monday,

December 20th. The decorating of the inside of our church will take place on Sunday, December 19th after our 10:00 am Mass. Volunteers are NEEDED to help with the decorating. In good times and bad, senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have dedicated themselves to service and acts of mercy. Today they pray for an aching world. Yet years of serving for little or no pay have left their religious communities without enough retirement savings. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and other necessities. The collection is December 11th and 12th. Your envelope for this donation is in your monthly mailed envelope packet. Extra envelopes are at our church exits. Please pray for all religious and be generous in your financial support. Finally, please take a tag from the Giving Tree and buy a Christmas gift for a child in need. I look forward to celebrating Advent and Christmas with you. Together let us prepare a place in our hearts for Christ to be born again this Christmas. Father Jasany

Prayer for the Second Week of

Advent –Peace Lord, in a season when every heart should be happy and light, many of us are struggling with the heaviness of life—burdens that steal the joy right out of our stockings. Tragedy arrives as innocent victims suffer, and an inner voice whispers, “Be afraid!” We need your peace, Jesus. We confess that our hearts are too often filled with wonder of a different kind: wondering when the bills will be paid, when the terror will stop, when rest will come. Will it ever? Is the message still true? In a world where worry, not peace, prevails, stir up that good news again. This Advent, make it real in our hearts. Never have we needed Your joy and peace more than now. Thank You for the gift of Jesus, our Emmanuel, the Word made flesh. Please remember to pick up a Blue

Advent Book from the church. The

book, has 6 minute reflections for

each day of Advent. What a

beautiful way to prepare the way of

the Lord. You can get one from the

rectory Monday through Friday 8:30

to 2:30 or in the church after Mass.

OPLATKI ARE HERE !

Many families observe the

Christmas Eve/Christmas Day

tradition of sharing Oplatki.

Opatki packs are available at

the Blessed Mother’s Altar.

Please renew with tradition with

your family.

HOW TO CELEBRATE THE OPLATKI TRADITION

The Oplatki are enjoyed by families, typically right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire family will gather around the table with the Oplatek. Generally the eldest member of the family will begin the ritual by breaking off a piece of the wafer and passing it to another family member with a blessing. This blessing can simply consist of what you desire for your loved one in the upcoming year – whether it be good health, success, or happiness. The purpose of this act is primarily to express ones unconditional love and forgiveness for each member of his or her family.
