Dear Parents,

Congratulations to our parents who completed our first Parents as Classroom Helpers

course this week! I strongly encourage all interested parents who haven’t completed the

course to register for our Term 2 evening course.

Thank you to Reagon Haines, all staff, parents and children for working together to ensure

our Twilight sports on Tuesday afternoon this week was a great success! The weather was

magnificent and I was very proud that all children gave their best effort, encouraged

others and really enjoyed the athletics. Congratulations to Blue Team who were our

winners this year.

Our Stations of the Cross was held today. This solemn commemoration of the events of

Good Friday, remind us of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Thank you to all classes for their

preparation and reverent presentation of each Station of the Cross and for the reminders

that each Station gives us for how we can live our lives more fully as followers of Jesus.

An invitation was sent home to all families today to attend our Family Maths night on the

evening of Wednesday 26th April from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the hall. (Wednesday of

Week 2 next term). I commend this night to all families as a way for parents and children to

work together on fun mathematical activities which promote mathematical thinking,

mathematical language and problem solving.

This Sunday is the Fifth and last Sunday of Lent. The Gospel reading focuses on Jesus raising

Lazarus from the dead. This reading invites us to reflect upon what it means to call Jesus

the “Resurrection and the Life” in the lead up to the joyful Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Thank you to all children and families for generously supporting our 3 Lenten charities. They

are; Mums supporting families in need, Parishioners Crisis Support Fund and Caritas

Australia (Project Compassion). Your efforts raised a total of $527.00 which will go to these

very worthy charities.

Term 1 finished today with much to be thankful for. Term 2 will resume on Tuesday 18th April

at the usual time.

I wish all children, families and staff a restful, relaxing holiday break and a joyous and

Happy Easter.

Regards,

Paul Dwyer, Principal.

“The students’ preparation has helped them to

have a deeper appreciation for the rich tradition

of Stations and the journey Christ took to the

cross,”

Thank you to the parents who came to join in. I

am sure you’ll agree that the children did a

wonderful job and were very prayerful.

Thank you to Fr John for his blessing and for his

10/10 score for the students presentations.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our St

Joachim’s family a safe and holy Easter.

Pope Francis said that “every person

ought to have the awareness that

purchasing is always a moral – and not

simply an economic – act.”

Are you buying and eating, or giving away

Easter chocolate this year? It is estimated that

up to 30 million people are trapped in slavery

globally. The United Nations estimates that one

in every three victims of human trafficking is a

child.

Much of the chocolate we consume in Australia

is made with cocoa beans picked by children,

many of whom have been enslaved.

If you buy chocolate featuring one of these

three certification symbols you will know that

production of the chocolate is okay.
