My Dear Parishioners, On this First Sunday of Lent, our liturgy calls us into the desert

with Jesus who, for forty days “was put to the test.” We are reminded that there are times when we are all put to the test. This life contains trials. Our Lord’s trial in the wilderness is one that he was able to endure. In the end, he was able to triumph. We can learn from him if we are to successfully pass the tests of life. When we look to Jesus, we see first and foremost a man of prayer. It was his life of prayer, his com-munion with his heavenly Father that gave him the courage and the trust to carry out his mission here on earth. We recall that in the wilderness, Jesus also fasted. He surrendered the comforts of the body in order to focus more intensely upon the spiritual. In the end, he was able to place his life in the hands of his heavenly Father and to remain faithful to the mission he had been given. During this season of Lent, we turn again with a renewed emphasis toward prayer and fasting. We are called to deepen our relationship with our Lord through our life of prayer and our spiritual exercis-es. In our works of charity and self-denial, we seek to lead lives that are more pleasing to him. Lent is a time for introspection and for drawing closer to the Lord. It is also a time of spiritual renewal, as we open ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit. As we observe our season of Lent we turn again to Jesus, whose victory over sin and death has won for us the gift of salvation. We seek to overcome sin and oppression in our personal lives by looking to his Holy Spirit. He is our strength, guide and con-soler in times of temptation and testing. The Lord Jesus is ever ready to pour out his Spirit upon us that we may have the strength and courage to re-sist sin and to reject the lies and deceits of our ene-my Satan. God wants us to “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Tim. 6:12) with the power and strength which comes from the Holy Spirit. During this Len-ten season, may we turn to him and rely upon him for our strength and help! Sincerely yours, Monsignor Radocha

Academic Excellence – 3B: We are excited about the growth we have made since the beginning of the year. We have learned most of our cursive letters and are well on our way to knowing the multiplication facts. In Science, we are learning about the states of matter and forces: We are exploring the regions and natural resources. Our work in Social Studies, helps us expand our knowledge in reading. We are soaring with wonderful stories where we use figurative language and connect it with the world around us. We look forward to celebrating with our school commu-nity the sacred time of Lent. We will be participating in the Stations of the Cross. Our activities during Catholic Schools Week really kept us busy. We especially loved the Dance-a-thon with Mr. McGarvey! Why I like teaching in a Catholic School: The best part of teaching in a Catholic school is watching the stu-dents grow and mature in faith not only as they participate in religion class, outreach programs, and liturgical cele-brations, but also through their interactions with other students, volunteers, teachers and staff. Although it will not be necessary to have a copy of this C.S. Lewis classic to participate, we will have a number of copies available for purchase. A weekly meditation guide will be provided.
