Saturday Evening: 5:00 p.m. Weekdays: 8:00 a.m.
Sunday Mornings: 7:30, 9:00, 11:15 a.m. Holy Days: 8:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m.
Sunday Evening: 6:00 p.m.
Registration: We welcome all new members to our parish family. Your registration is important; it helps us to know
those we serve. It is also necessary if you wish to be certified as an active member to be a baptismal or
confirmation sponsor.
Stewardship: Christians share their talents, time and treasure to carry on the work of the Church. Your offerings
are essential to St. Ignatius Church, for us to maintain our staffing, programs and buildings.
Cemetery: There are grave sites available for active parishioners in the new section at the base of the hill. Catholic
Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Washington administers the sale of lots and burial. Because we do not have an
adequate endowment, the costs of maintenance come from general parish funds. The phone number for Catholic
Cemeteries is 301-932-1766.
Reconciliation: Saturdays 4:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., or by appointment.
Matrimony: Registered parishioners planning to be married at St. Ignatius must contact the pastor at least six
months before the wedding.
Baptism: Parents planning to have their child baptized attend baptism classes which are offered the first Saturday
of February, April, June, August, October and December. Please email or call Fr. Clifford to register for the class.
Consider doing so, before your child is born.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: If you would like to learn about becoming a Catholic, please contact the
Religious Education Office. Classes begin at the end of the summer.

Spiritual “Spring Training” Today, the Nationals play their first Spring training game to get
ready for Opening Day on April 2. This year, of course, is a particularly upbeat time, because
we saw good things. Not perfection surely, but definitely good things. Spring is all about getting
into the swing of things and getting back into good habits. It also means being aware of the
bad habits of the past; not so players can beat themselves up over past mistakes, but to be ready
to avoid them in the future, especially by developing good habits. So in some ways Lent is like
that for the soul.
Lent takes a very somber tone in Holy Week; when we revisit the suffering and death of
Jesus; but we know that is all a prelude to Easter and The Resurrection. Fr. Pius Parsch, one of
the great leaders of the liturgical renewal in the early twentieth century, wrote of Lent:
…The catechumen is healed in the water of baptism, the penitent in the laver (washing) of
penance, and the believer in the blood of Christ.
Lent then is the time of Salvation par excellence not only for catechumens and penitents
but for the faithful as well. The catechumens attain their goal in baptism on Holy
Saturday…Lent is designed to aid them in preparing. And through Daily Mass the faithful
have the divine life within them enriched and perfected. By Holy Thursday they should be
free from sin and cleansed of guilt so as to appear in the full maturity and perfection of
grace on Holy Saturday.
I view Lent, indeed the whole Easter cycle, from the approach of a life filled with God.
Lent is not about feeling dejected and guilty, it is not about making ourselves perfect through
our own efforts or devotions, but of opening ourselves up to the saving power of grace through
reminding ourselves of our spiritual needs, and preparing to receive grace by tilling the soil of
our hearts to be renewed.
Scout Sunday during the 9 a.m. Mass celebrates over 100 years of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
THE ANNUAL PARISH PANCAKE SUPPER-Tuesday at 6 p.m. For those who signed up
to attend. There will be a donation basket at the door to offset the cost of the dinner.
Follow-Up Weekend
Thank you to all parishioners who made a gift to the Annual Appeal last weekend. We
appreciate your support. If you did not have a chance to make your gift last weekend, or you
needed more time to prayerfully consider your gift, pledge envelopes will again be available in
the church this weekend, and completed envelopes can be placed in the offertory basket. You
may also make your pledge online at appeal.adw.org. No gift is too small and will support more
than 60 ministries and programs benefitting countless women, men, children and families in the
Church of Washington, including within our own parish and local community. As in every year,
100% of your contribution to the Annual Appeal will be designated to the ministries and
programs supported by the Appeal. Thank you for your generous response.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season This Wednesday, there will be
Mass with distribution of ashes at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Fast & Abstinence Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and
abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18
until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller
meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are
binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

Safenights Thanks to everyone who helped out with Safenights held at LaPlata UMC on
Thursday.
Kateri The statue of St. Kateri is not in its usual place. It came undone from the adhesive that
held it in place all these years. Wind and rain may have caused the fall, but there was no visible
damage. The base will be cleaned so that an epoxy will hold well. This will require a bit of
warm dry weather. In the meantime it is in the hall.
Hall Entry The entrance to the hall has been transformed to provide a warm and inviting entry.
Check it out at the pancake supper.
