Notes from Fr. Jim: It is the time of year to be thankful and give thanks and I am especially thankful for being at St. Frances Cabrini and look forward to being here for many years. I realize that I still have to learn many names but the faces are becom-ing familiar and I am feeling more and more comfortable each day. I thank you all for your patience. Did you attend the Jewelry Show at the Cabrini Center? I stopped by and it was a lot of fun. Everyone did a great job to make it a success and they raised $1,500.00 which will go to the CFA. So I don’t miss any names I want to thank and bless all those involved for their hard work. In the same thought of thanking people for their hard work, I need to acknowledge Brenda and her group that weekly put in their time to run our Scrip Card Program. As you know all the proceeds go to the CFA and this year we are sending a check for $15,000.00. I am very thankful that I was sent to a parish like St. Frances with a group of truly devoted volunteers that are so deeply involved in the activities of our church. May God bless you all, Fr. Jim
It’s that time of the year again… Company coming, gifts for grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, husband or wife, teens, tweens and children. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to please them all without all that mall shopping? Scrip has everything you need: department and home improvement stores, movies, restaurants, gas and grocery cards. Some-thing for everyone on your list. Stop by the ticket office at the front of the church. There is someone there to help you after masses. Now, wasn’t that easy? Time left over so put your feet up and enjoy your favorite holiday beverage.

Faith Formation Christmas Pageant Las Posada
It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. This means that preparations for the Faith Formation Christmas pag-eant are fully under way. We are excited to announce that the pageant will be on the Sunday before Christmas, December 18th at 4:30 PM in the Cabrini Center. Many of the children in the Faith For-mation program, from grades Pre-K through high school, will be participating in this pageant. The script for the pageant will be new this year. The children will be presenting “Journey to the Inn: An Advent Celebration.” It will be a reenactment of the story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to find shelter. The celebration comes from the Spanish missionar-ies who wanted to introduce Christ and His beloved mother to the New World. The Spanish missionaries referred to these cer-emonies as Las Posada – meaning “the inns” or “the shelters” – as they gave emphasis to Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter before Our Savior’s birth. Parishioners are encouraged to join the Faith Formation families for this wonderful Christmas experience. Light refreshments will be served after.
Winter Retreat
St. Frances Cabrini Parish will be hosting a winter retreat series on the theme of Consoling the Heart of Jesus in the Mother Cabrini Center. The retreat will be based on Fr. Michael Gaitley's book of the same title.
The retreat will take place on Tuesday for ten weeks beginning on Tuesday
January 3rd and ending March the 7th. from1-3 pm
Please join us for an experience of faith building and re-newal.

REFLECTIONS FOR ADVENT ADORATION PREPARING FOR THE CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS: FOOD
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.” John 6:53-58 As we prepare for Christmas, let us remember that we will be celebrating on Christmas day “the bread that came down from heaven” so that we would have life. PRACTICE: When thinking about Christmas meals we think of the turkeys and hams, the cookies and “special” fudge and cakes and all kinds of goodies that are part of our traditional parties and dinners; but put this aside as much as you can this Advent and Christmas season and focus on the true nourishment, the truly life giving food that is Christ in the Eucharist. Pray over each sentence of Jesus’ quote individually. Take in the message. Consider what each statement means in your life. For example, do you approach Holy Com-munion understanding the life that it brings you? Do you live each day with the reali-zation that through Holy Communion you remain in Christ and He in you? Spend time reflecting on these words about the Eucharist: "When the bee has gathered the dew of heaven and the earth's sweetest nectar from the flowers, it turns it into honey, then hastens to its hive. In the same way, the priest, having taken from the altar the Son of God (who is as the dew from heaven, and true son of Mary, flower of our humanity), gives him to you as delicious food." - St. Francis de Sales "O Lord, we cannot go to the pool of Siloe to which you sent the blind man. But we have the chalice of Your Precious Blood, filled with life and light. The purer we are, the more we receive." - St. Ephraem Prepare yourself to receive God’s “delicious food” fully on Christmas day. Go to confession with this goal in mind. “The purer we are, the more we receive”. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday 9:00am to 2:30pm in the Chapel of Adoration. The Divine Mercy Chaplet is prayed at 2:00pm every Friday. All are welcome. If you would like to join The Adoration Program at St. Frances Cabrini call or email Alice Burns 919-306-6292 [email protected].
