THE WORD OF GOD 10:00 AM

Cantabile Justin Heinrich Knecht

The Rev. David Marshall

Please light your candle or lamp at this time as a sign of our unity in worship and a reminder of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Please stand, as able.

Please wait in silence. The people standing, the Celebrant says

Presider: Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints,

People: where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Presider: You only are immortal, the creator and maker of humankind; and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and to earth shall we return. For so did you ordain when you created me, saying, “You are dust, and to dust you shall return.” All of us go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

People: Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Presider: Almighty and Everliving God, we remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. Hold them in your love, use them to your glorious purposes, and bring us together with them again in the age to come.

Names of our departed will be read.

Presider: Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

People: And blessed be God’s kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

Presider: There is one Body and one Spirit;

People: There is one hope in God's call to us;

Presider: One Lord, one Faith, one Baptism;

People: One God and Father of all.

Presider: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Presider: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the

mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting.

People: Amen.

Please be seated.

Revelation 7:9-17

Reader: A reading from the Book of Revelation

After this I, John, looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying,

“Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, singing,

“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.” Then he said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

7

“For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Hear what the Spirit is saying to God’s people.

People: Thanks be to God.

Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Matthew.

People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

Matthew 5:1-12

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. Please be seated.

The Rev. Catharine Reid

Please stand as able.

Presider Do you reaffirm your renunciation of evil and renew your commitment to Jesus Christ? People I do.

Presider: Do you believe in God the Father?

People I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Presider: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

People I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Presider: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

People I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Presider: Will you continue in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers?

People I will, with God's help.

Presider: Will you persevere in resisting evil, and, whenever you fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?

People I will, with God's help.

Presider: Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?

People I will, with God's help.

Presider: Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?

People I will, with God's help.

Presider: May Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and bestowed upon us the forgiveness of sins, keep us in eternal life by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

People Amen.

Deacon: All blessing, honor, and glory, all wisdom, praise, and thanks be yours, O God of our salvation! We pray in communion with all the saints on earth and heaven, with the martyrs and the faithful in all ages, and in the name of the Lamb who was slain, who alone is worthy of worship.

Let us pray for the Church and for the world.

Leader: God of love, we pray for your church: For Michael our Presiding Bishop; Greg, our bishop; for all lay and ordained ministers; and for all who seek you in the community of the faithful. Equip us with compassion and love, to carry out your work of reconciliation in the world.

God of love,

People: Hear our prayers for the church.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Leader: God of freedom, we pray for our nation, and all the nations of the world: For peace and unity across barriers of language, color, and creed; for elected and appointed leaders, that they would serve the common good. Inspire all people with courage to speak out against hatred, to actively resist evil. Unite the human family in bonds of love.

God of freedom,

People: Hear our prayers for the world.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Leader: God of justice, we pray for the earth, your creation entrusted to our care: For the animals and birds, the mountains and oceans, and all parts of your creation that have no voice of their own. Stir up in us a thirst for justice that protects the earth and all its resources, that we may leave to our children’s children the legacy of beauty and abundance that you have given us.

God of justice,

People: Hear our prayers for the earth.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Leader: God of peace, we pray for this community: For our local leaders; for our schools and markets; for our neighborhoods and workplaces. Kindle in every heart a desire for equality, respect, and opportunity for all. Give us courage to strive for justice and peace among all people, beginning here at home.

God of peace,

People: Hear our prayers for this community.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Leader: God of mercy, we pray for all in any kind of need or trouble: For those whose lives are closely linked with ours, and those connected to us as part of the human family. For refugees and prisoners; for the sick and suffering, the lonely and despairing; for those facing violence; for all held down by prejudice or injustice. Awaken in us compassion and humility of spirit, as we seek and serve Christ in all persons.

God of mercy,

People: Hear our prayers for all who are in need.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Leader: God of grace, we pray for those who have died: For the faithful in every generation who have worked for justice; for prophets who called us to racial reconciliation; for martyrs who died because of hatred; and for all the communion of saints. Make us faithful to your call to proclaim your Good News, by word and example, and bring us at last into the glorious company of the saints in light.

God of grace,

People: Hear our prayers for those who have died.

Silence — Add your prayers: aloud, by writing in the comments or silently in your hearts

Presider: Bless us with your healing presence; make us hungry for justice; strengthen our faith; and increase our love for others, especially those we find it most difficult to love.

People: Amen.

Presider: The Peace of the Lord be always with you.

People: And also with you.

Presider: Either silently or aloud, now share the peace of Christ with whomever you hold in your heart.

Presider: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Presider: Lift up your hearts.

People We lift them to the Lord.

Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Presider: It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. For in the multitude of your saints you have surrounded us with a great cloud of witnesses, that we might rejoice in their fellowship, and run with endurance the race that is set before us; and, together with them, receive the crown of glory that never fades away. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

All Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Presider: Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

15

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

All Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

Presider: We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.

People: Amen.

Presider: As our Savior Christ has taught us, we now pray,

You are invited to pray whichever version of the Lord’s Prayer you are most comfortable with.

People:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Our Father in heaven hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread.

A period of silence is kept.

Presider: Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;

People: Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

Presider: The dinner table is always a place where we tell stories. We tell stories of growing up and falling in love, of making mistakes and figuring it out. We tell stories that make us laugh, stories that make us cry, and stories that help us remember. This table is no different. For at this table we tell stories about a God who loves us unconditionally. We tell stories about a man who fed the hungry, washed the feet of his disciples, and said, “This is my body—for you.” So friends, as you come to this table tonight, bring your stories— Stories about who you are and who you want to be. Stories of shame and disappointment, stories of fear and faith. Bring your money stories, your faith stories, your love and heartbreak stories—bring them all. For no matter the narrative, God welcomes us at this table. You belong here. There is a place saved for you.

These are the Gifts of God for the People of God.

Communion is distributed to the in-person participants. At this time, you are invited to prepare bread and wine to be blessed at home.

Page 17: ST DUNSTAN S EPISCOPAL CHURCHGina Galliano The Rev. Gerald Garman Peggy Goldsmith . 4 D.D. Gore Daphne Margaret Gross Christopher Gustaveson Edith Hadley ... Barbara Post Paulette

Presider: I invite you now to place bread and wine out in front of you and we will pray for God’s blessing on them.

Holy God, we gather today in our separate homes, united in prayer and worship. Be with us in this gathering in Christ, helping us to know that even as we are isolated, we are unified in love.

Blessed are you, O Lord our God, Ruler of the universe. You bring forth bread from the earth; and you have fed us on our way with the bread of life. As grain scattered upon the earth is gathered into one loaf, so gather your Church in every place into the kingdom of your Son. Be with us now in our hunger for you.

Blessed are you, O Lord our God, Ruler of the universe. You create the fruit of the vine; and refresh us with the cup of blessing. Be with us now in our thirst for you.

Bless these gifts by your Holy Spirit to be for your people a holy meal shared in faith and love. Bless us also that we may be united in love as we worship together in your name.

People: Amen.

We will now share in bread and wine, each in our own places, united by the Holy Spirit as the Body of Christ.

Please stand as able.

Presider: Let us pray.

All: Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Presider: The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

People: Amen.

Deacon: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Alleluia. Alleluia.

People: Thanks be to God. Alleluia. Alleluia.
