Today we get a very keen look at the kind of faith Jesus invites us to have when He says in today's Gospel: “I am

the Living Bread come down from Heaven... My flesh is the real food; my blood is the real drink. Whoever eats my

flesh and drinks by blood live in me, and I live in him.” Each time we receive Holy Communion we have an oppor-

tunity to give witness to our faith in these words of Jesus. Hearing today’s Gospel might be a good time for us to

reflect on our attitude toward the power of the Eucharist to transform our lives. We receive Holy Communion be-

cause we are supposed to be changed by it. The Eucharist is given to us to have an effect in our lives. The cele-

bration of the Mass is the center of all our prayers in the Church. It is the most important thing we do as Chris-

tians. But do we always see it this way?

If our reception of Holy Communion seems to be lacking something, maybe it’s because we have allowed it to

become routine in our lives. Maybe it’s because we have allowed it to become an event that we “attend” and

don’t allow ourselves to become involved in or transformed by it. We can begin to answer these questions by

thinking about how prayerful we are before and after receiving Communion. What goes through our mind and

heart before and after receiving the Body of Christ? Do we speak to Jesus as a friend? Do we give Him thanks,

ask His forgiveness, and talk to Him about our problems? Many people go through life without any knowledge

of this incredible gift. An even greater tragedy is for people to know and understand this gift and not to appreci-

ate it; people who have made receiving Holy Communion a lifeless routine. I always look forward to First Holy

Communion Day at our parishes. It is so gratifying to see the excitement on the children’s faces and the joy they

radiate realizing that for the first time they will receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. I always challenge

those at these Masses to recapture the excitement and joy of the children.

Today we come to be fed at the Lord’s Table with this tremendous gift of the Eucharist. May our words and ac-

tions today reflect our appreciation for this tremendous gift.

God bless you always!

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

"Show me what is physically different between a host that is consecrated and one that is not." These are words that can be heard on

the lips of anyone struggling with faith. Perhaps, they are heard on yours. Physical tests will reveal no difference. The difference is

seen through faith. In one sense, it is simple. Either we believe that the risen Christ is present -- soul and divinity -- or we do not.

The fruits of faith are the proof. In the Eucharist, God enters into the very depths of who we are. However, it is our choice whether

we ignore what He does or act fully upon it. The Eucharist can change us. When people see that we are different, they in turn will

themselves believe.

CATHOLIC QUOTES - WORDS TO INSPIRE THE FAITHFUL

Of all his virtues, Christ specifically commends one to us, humility.

'Learn of me for I am meek and humble of heart.'

If you graduated from St. Charles from 1970 - 1979, or

know someone who did, please pass on the information. To

find out more, visit the St. Charles website “Welcome” page

is a link that says “Alumni Reunion Link”. Once you click

on it, you will see the website with all of the information and

a registration form (RSVP link). This is probably the most

convenient way to reply.

As we move closer, we will need alumni to RSVP for two

events; the Mass on Saturday, Sept.22nd (to reserve enough

pews) and if you are attending the "Meet & Greet' on Sunday

morning (because we need to order refreshments). Every-

thing else is basically part of the festival and does not require

a response. If you have any questions, please give me a call

at 262-758-0403, or you may email me at jhalver-

ANTON NICKOLAI

On September 8, 2018, our Tri-Parish community will be

receiving a Permanent Deacon. Anton Nickolai will be or-

dained through the sacrament of Holy Orders at the Cathe-

dral of St John the Evangelist in Milwaukee to the Perma-

nent Diaconate.

We welcome all of our Tri-Parish community to join us in

celebrating his ordination. His Mass of Thanksgiving will

be celebrated on September 9, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St Mary

Immaculate Conception in Burlington. A light luncheon

will be served in the St Mary cafeteria after the Mass of

Thanksgiving on September 9th at 11:30 AM.

Let us keep all those discerning a call to the diaconate, pre-

paring for ordination, and current deacons in our Archdio-

cese in our prayers.

Where does Scripture talk about deacons?

The title of deacon comes from the Greek word diakonia,

which means service. St. Stephen is referred to as the first

deacon.

“Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in

number, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews

because their widows were neglected in the daily distribu-

tion. And the twelve summoned the body of the disciples

and said, ‘It is not right that we should give up preaching

the word of God to serve tables. Therefore, brethren, pick

out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the

Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this duty.

But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry

of the word.’ And what they said pleased the whole multi-

tude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of

the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Proch’orus, and Nica’nor,

and Ti’mon, and Par’menas, and Nicola’us, a proselyte of

Antioch. These they set before the apostles, and they

prayed and laid their hands upon them.”

8 Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued,

not addicted to much wine, not greedy for gain; 9 they

must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience.

10 And let them also be tested first; then if they prove

themselves blameless let them serve as deacons. 12

Let deacons be the husband of one wife, and let them

manage their children and their households well; 13 for

those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing

for themselves and also great confidence in the faith

which is in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 3:8-10,12-13

Deacons focus on serving the Church, serving the People of

God, serving those in need. Deacons are formed to see the

spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of people and to util-

ize the resources of the Church to help meet the needs. They

represent Christ the Servant. “Through the sacrament of

Holy Orders (ordination), deacons are configured to Jesus

the Servant who “did not come to be served, but to serve,

and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark

10:45).” (www.Deacon2018.org).

A BIG “Thank You” to Jackie Heiligenthal for the purchase of

our beautiful new vestment! Your kindness is greatly appreciated!

DOMINGO 20 DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

LA EUCARISTIA. THE HOLY MASS

a Jesucristo.

Una feliz semana para todos.
