St. Bernard Parish Bishop’s Appeal 2018

We are at: $43,000 Our Goal is: $92,843

Our parish will be hosting a Young Adult Faith Study on March 24, April 7 and April 28 following the 4pm Mass. We will be inviting persons, ages 21-39, to join me, Adam, Sam and Callie at the parish rectory for some food, faith, and fellowship. We will meet at the rectory around 6pm and wrap up around 8pm. We will be discussing a book called “Plan of Life, Habits to Help You Grow Closer to God” by Fr. Roger Landry. Fr. Landry is a classmate of mine from Seminary who now represents the Holy See at the United Nations. He is a great guy who has written a very practical and accessible book. I enjoyed it very much. The book will be available through Adam Horn, Director of Religious Education. There is no cost but pre-registration will be needed for food. You may email Adam Horn at [email protected] or me at [email protected] or you may call the parish at 468-4811. Single or married are welcome. The book is published by Pauline Media and Books with a forward written by international Catholic speaker Matthew Kelly. He wrote the following: “Reading these pages, I am led to conclude: it is impossible to excel in the Christian life without a plan of life. And that is what we are called to – excellence. We think about achieving excellence in so many areas of our lives, but when was the last time you reflected seriously on achieving excellence in the spiritual life?” Cardinal Dolan wrote: “A successful spiritual life needs the same discipline that a successful diet or physical training requires. Father Landry’s very helpful book prompts us to develop such a regimen for growth in holiness”. The book consists of about 20 chapters, each about 3-4 pages each. It is a very easy and informative read and provides plenty of reflection and discussion material. Sam Schultz, Adam and I will each lead a night reflection. The book also has some classic journal and workbook sections to help you make a plan for yourself. I am confident you will walk away with something, at the very least new friends. Some of the chapter titles are: (the subtitles which are not included here, are not as stuffy sounding) The Holy Spirit, The Heroic Moment, The Morning Offering, The General Exam, Regular Prayer, Sacred Scripture, Weekly Little Easter, Frequent Confession, Eucharistic Adoration, Charity and Almsgiving, Holy Week, The Rosary, Eucharistic Practices, Marian Devotions, Penitential Prac-tices, Bringing Everything into Harmony, Christian Unity of Life, Christian Attitudes, and of course the appendix sections: Plan of Life Planning Chart, Prayers for a Plan of Life. The titles sound formal, the book is not. If you could join us, that would be awesome! Fr. Mark Vander Steeg

Baptisms

We welcome those who were recently Baptized: Lucy Kora Rouse and Miles James Manz.

3rd Sunday in Lent

“You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of any-thing…” EXODUS 20:4

How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health.

Life in the Spirit Seminar

Are you looking to start or grow your relationship with God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit? Reverend David L. Ricken, DD, JCL, Bishop of Green Bay, stated, “The Life in the Spirit Seminar is an opportunity to grow in awareness and openness to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.”

It is the Holy Spirit who calls, leads, awakens, empowers, and brings about change. If we learn to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can be a light in the darkness. Come join us for a 7 week course that is being offered at St. Bernard Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, Green Bay, WI, 54302, on Thursday evenings, from 6:45pm to 9 pm, starting April 12, through May 24.

This is sponsored by the Diocesan Charismatic Renewal. This seminar is designed to bring about a personal and spiritual transformation through a fuller release of the power of the Holy Spirit in your daily life. A free-will offering will be taken. Explanation sessions will be April 2 and April 5 (you only need to attend one), at 7:00 pm at St. Bernard Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, in Green Bay, enter in the church doors. An explanation session is necessary to attend the seminar. (Check for brochures in the back of your church or on the bulletin board.) For more information call 920-940-8182.
