MANRESA CHRISTIAN LIFE COMMUNITY Christian Life Community is a worldwide organization composed of small groups of men and women who come together twice a month to share community, spirituality and mission, bringing gospel values to family, workplace and community. Recognized as a lay vocation within the Church, the unifying experience among those CLC groups is the Spirtual Exercises of St. Ignatius as a way of life. You are invited to an introductory meeting and Mass, Tues., Oct. 19th at 7pm at St. Sylvester Parish’s Moore Conference Room, 854 Targee St., Enter thru side walkway beneath the Parish House.

SPONSOR CERTIFICATES Sponsor certificates can only be issued to members of our parish, who are registered at least six months, regularly attend Mass, and receive the sacraments. Regular use of envelopes indicates attendances at Mass. Sponsors are to be Baptized, Confirmed, and if married, have done so in conformity with the laws of the Church. Out of town, college students should receive a certificate from their campus minister. People in the military should receive a certificate from their Chaplain.

BEYOND SUNDAY MORNING In order to become great, we must serve! In this Sunday’s Gospel, Our Lord tells James and John not to look at where they can sit, but where they can love. Our model of greatness, Jesus Himself, loved all the way to the end. He held nothing back, and we are meant to do the same. St. John Paul II famously wrote, “Man cannot fully find himself except through a sincere gift of himself.”

We too are often tempted to put earthly goods before our relationship with God the Father. Therefore, we must practice this laying down of our lives – in our time, in our talent, and in our treasure. As you have heard, we are using these weeks to invite all parishioners to renew their annual offertory commitments. This is not just about offertory; this is about asking the Lord what we might be tempted to prioritize over Him. This could be money, but it could also be health, or recognition, or even other people. As a next step, simply offer that to the Lord in humility: Lord, I recognize that an earthly good has laid claim to my heart, and I lay this down for you at the foot of the altar. I ask you to take this offering and use it for Your glory.

PAGE FOUR OFFICE OF THE CARDINAL 1011 FIRSTAVENUE NEWYORK, NY 10022 October 17, 2021 Month of the Holy Rosary Year of St. Joseph Dear friends in the Lord: This year the worldwide Eucharistic celebration for World Mission Sunday will be celebrated on the weekend of October 24. This important day in the life of the Church universal fortifies our understanding of our shared call to mission, bestowed upon us at Baptism. As I write to you today ,I express my gratitude for last year's contribution of $237,077. Pope Francis, in his message for World Mission Sunday reflects on the theme: "We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard"(Acts 4:20). The Holy Father shares his zeal, reminding us that, "as Christians, we cannot keep the Lord to ourselves," as we "recall with gratitude all those men and women who by their testimony of life help us to renew our baptismal commitment to be generous and joyful apostles of the Gospel." He invites us to speak of our faith. World Mission Sunday provides us with that very opportunity. We can speak about our faith and respond to our missionary call- through prayer, participation in the Eucharist, and giving generously to the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith on that special day. Your gifts support and sustain priests, religious and lay pastoral leaders in more than 1,100 mission dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe as they proclaim the Gospel, build the Church, serve the poor- and speak of our shared faith in all corners of the world. "The recent global pandemic has amplified the pain, the solitude, the poverty, and the injustices experienced by so many people," reminds Pope Francis. This year, as the world recovers from the loss and the challenges that resulted, let us respond with reciprocal generosity to the fullest extent that we are able. If you were unable to support missionaries last year arising from the pandemic, I urge you to double your generosity for those most in need. As we rebuild our lives, help us to also reach out in solidarity and support for the Mission Church, and the work and witness of missionaries in the Pope's missions. In this spirit, I offer my sincere personal gratitude and prayerful best wishes for your kind missionary heart. Faithfully in Christ,

Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York
