THE RICHNESS OF LIFE IN CHRIST
Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 2, 2017
Today we have the beautiful story of the woman promised a
child, the wonderful exhortation about life in Christ, and a pow-
erful instruction from Jesus. An embarrassment of riches? Not if
we take Jesus' words about "welcome" to heart. The many chal-
lenges and blessings offered to us today by Elisha, Paul, and Je-
sus should be cause for rejoicing, and welcomed heartily into our
lives. And, like the great treat that they are, they should be en-
joyed and shared generously with others.
Today's reading from Romans was chosen very early in the
liturgical life of the Church to be the sole apostolic instruction
received by candidates for baptism at the Easter Vigil. This illus-
trates its importance as a core belief, and as a means of compre-
hending the story of the Resurrection. Christ's resurrection is not
merely a story about something that he underwent once upon a
time, but it is our story, the story of how we joined the other
members of the one Body of Christ, the church. We were not
only dead, but we were buried; not ultimately buried, but raised
to eternal life with Christ. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

From the desk of our pastor, Father Tony Neusch
My family prayed
_____rosaries this week.
65 Rosaries were prayed this week for
vocations, thank you!
After Consultation with Bishop Zurek I have been granted a six month sabbatical beginning June of 2019 un-
til November of 2019. This sabbatical coincides with my 15th Anniversary of Ordination. There will be a lot of
preparation over the next few months and in this week’s reflection I would like to outline some of what will be hap-
pening. I am in the process of forming a sabbatical committee. Krynson Jesko has graciously accepted becoming
the chair of the committee. The Sabbatical Committee will help with the Writing of the Lilly Foundation Clergy Re-
newal Grant that will be completed by December. The Sabbatical Committee will also help form what I will be do-
ing for my sabbatical
In visiting with Bishop Zurek the tentative plan for the sabbatical would include a 30 day silent Ignatian Re-
treat, a time of study dedicated to Evangelization, walking the Camino from Paris to Santiago de Compostella, and
some rest. The interesting thing about using the Lilly Clergy Renewal Grant is they see the parish community on
sabbatical as well. That as the Pastor steps away to renew, the parish dedicates itself during the same time to re-
newal. The Parish is invited to be on the same type of Sabbatical. A time for prayer and reflection, a time for study
and pilgrimage, a time for rest and introspection.
What can you as the parish expect over the next few months of planning, and into next year the time of im-
plementation?
The Sabbatical Committee will make sure that you are
Kept informed as to planning for my time away and what I will be doing
Asked for input as to how the Parish potion of the sabbatical will look
Given an opportunity to see the final grant proposal before it is submitted
As we move into this exciting time I would ask that you pray and reflect on how farmers care for their land.
They plant, they reap, and they lie fallow. This image is I think the best one for sabbatical. In the life of a
parish and the life of a priest, there are times to plant, to reap, and to lie fallow. Thank you for entering into
this time of preparation and discernment with me. I know that the fruits will be life giving and holy.
YOU’RE INVITED! July 2nd, 2017.
Everyone is invited to a reception in
honor of Katie Lupton’s 90th birthday
after the 11:30 am Mass in the
Antonian Room!
PRAYER CHAIN REQUESTS We want to remind people to feel free to use the par-
ish prayer lines when needs arise in
your family in difficult times of testing
and trial. Email
[email protected] or call Rita
Burges at 364-6766. Contacts are
listed on the back of the weekly church
bulletin. You must first have the
permission of the patient or of a close family member
who can speak for that person in need; you may use
either their full name OR no name at all. It is also
hoped that if the prayer line is being used
anonymously, the caller inform our Pastor Father
Tony so he can come to anoint or administer the
Sacrament of Healing when needed and to know
who among the flock to keep in his daily prayer.
Thank you and May God Bless you!
