Annual Breast Cancer Healing Mass ~ Saturday, June 11th - 9:30 am, Immaculata Church
Many people have expressed that they are not comfortable supporting the Komen Race for the Cure due to its policy to offer financial support to abortion providers, its denial of research showing a possi-ble link between abortion and breast cancer, and its endorsement of embryonic stem cell research. As an alternative, the Archdiocese offers this Healing Mass for anyone who has had breast cancer, has known someone who has had it, or anyone who wishes to pray for the peace and healing. Fr. Jack Siefert will be the celebrant. Reception will follow.

REMEMBER THAT JUNE IS THE MONTH OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS! WE ALL HAVE OUR CROSS TO BEAR Well, that’s what you’d think, anyway, but apparently our parish is somewhat lacking in this. Let me explain. When our visitors from the Holy Land came here last week to sell their beautiful carved olive wood religious items, a group of our parishioners was particularly captivated by the beauty of the big cru-cifix that greeted you as you entered their display area. They decided, therefore, that that crucifix need-ed to stay here at our parish, to be displayed somewhere in our church or in the lunchroom. I happen to agree.
It’s on display in the vestibule this weekend and the reason why it’s there is so that you can see it and, moved by beauty, be inspired to help us pay for it. It cost $2,500. If you are disposed to help and are able to do so, please make a special contribution. Since this will be a donation to our parish, it will be tax-deductible. This is how to do it: put a check payable to St. Angela Merici in an envelope (or, if giving cash, make sure your name is on the envelope) and either drop it in the collection basket, drop it off at the parish offices, or hand it to me personally and mark the envelope so that it’s clear that this contribu-tion is for the new crucifix. No amount is too small. By adding together several offerings of, say, ten or twenty dollars, our parish will, through your generosity, be blessed with a genuine work of art! THE ANNUAL FLORISSANT CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION… …was a wonderful experience for the whole community and especially for those who took part in it. we’re looking forward to next year’s already (June 18) to be even bigger and better! CONFESSIONAL MATTERS (part II) As I mentioned last week, we are looking into expanding and improving my confessional in the church. That means three things: making it less cramped (especially for those who sit and confess face-to-face), making it more accessible for those who have trouble getting up and down (i.e., the elderly and disabled), and (most of all) making it soundproof! The blue tape marking on the floor is an outline of the space and shape of the new construction. We’re trying to determine how it will affect the flow of foot traffic through that area. We hope to have it all done by the end of summer. SAVE THE DATE (part II) Bill Jochens, an expert on estate planning, is coming to our parish on Tuesday, July 12 (in the even-ing) to discuss with those who are interested this uncomfortable but necessary aspect of life. The focus is on helping people to decide how best to ensure that their assets will, in fact, go to those to whom they intend them to go, whether family, charitable institutions, service organizations, etc. It’s open to all and free. CATECHISM CLASS (summer vacation) My Catechism Class has had its last session for the 2015-2016 term (and all passed maxima cum laude!), and so we’re off for the summer. Actually, there are no grades or tests, just participation and learning. We get together semi-monthly on those Tuesday nights to discuss our Catholic faith, answer questions about it, and address concerns. All are invited, all are welcome, and it’s all free! Consider join-ing us when we re-assemble in September!

QUOTES OF THE WEEK “Virginia Mayo is tangible proof of the ex-istence of God.” – the Sultan of Morocco, in a letter to the Warner Brothers after seeing her with Bob Hope in The Princess and the Pirate. (Actually, the sultan’s theology is rather sound; St. Thomas Aquinas had already pointed out that the existence of beauty in the world was the manifes-tation of Him was Beauty itself, and, therefore, beauty could not exist if God did not exist.) “It is quaint that people speak of separat-ing dogma from education. Dogma is actually the only thing that cannot be separated from educa-tion. It is education.” – the great G. K. Chesterton
