MASS INTENTIONS FOR THIS WEEK:

Sunday, November 20th, 2016, Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe: Today we celebrate Christ the King and are reminded that all was created through Him and for Him. Does my stewardship of the blessings entrusted to me give evidence that Christ is Lord of my life?

KINGSHIP - The book of Samuel recounts for us today the anointing of David as king of Israel. It was the elders of Israel who declared David king that day, but it was God who called David to shepherd Israel. Thus mandated by the citizens of his kingdom and by his God, David took his place in a long line of kings. The apostle Paul speaks to us of kingship as well, but on a much higher plane: the kingship of Jesus our Lord. As great as David was, he and all earthly monarchs who came before and after him in their kingdoms around the world are minor kings by comparison to the true King. And lastly, we hear the story of that true King in perhaps his weakest moment: near death, hanging on a cross, taunted by a common criminal and by the world at large. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound). Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971.

Reflections on Today’s Readings: FOCUS: Jesus is to be the ruler of our lives and hearts. Today we celebrate the solemnity of Our Lord Jesus, King of the Universe. Our celebration invites us to acknowledge Jesus not only as King of the Universe, but also as the ruler of our lives and hearts. One way to do this is to begin each day with prayer, where we invite Jesus to be the ruler of our lives and to use us in the ways He sees fit. LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of David being anointed to replace Saul as the king of Israel. The second reading presents a spiritual hymn that describes the sovereignty of Christ. In the Gospel, the good thief, Dismas, asks Jesus to remember him when he comes into His Kingdom.

Solemnity of Our Lord, Jesus Christ

Amen, say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise. - Luke 23-43

Even from the cross, Jesus taught new ideas about how to love and forgive. He helped people change

their lives. Jesus did this 2000 years ago. He still does it today. That’s good news for us! You can hear about Jesus from your pastors and parents. You can learn about Jesus today from this article in your Church’s bulletin. And you can read about Him in the Bible. Then you can see how Jesus wants you to live and how much He loves you each day of your life.

Jesus, you are truly my Lord. Help me follow you,

FACT OF LIFE PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect us against the wickedness of the devil. Protect those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life. Touch with pity the hearts of those women with child who are not thinking of motherhood. Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image, as well as theirs, and made for eternal life. Dispel the fear and loneliness these mothers feel, and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies; give them all the care that only a mother can give. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The Central District of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW) invites all women...of the

parish to a day of prayer and fellowship with other Catholic women of the area. Every Catholic Woman is a Member and There Are NO Dues. For inquiries about our next meeting or to get more information, call 213.637.7394 or email [email protected]
