Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... Fifth Sunday of Easter: Today’s reading from Revelation offers a vision of the City of God, the new Jerusalem. “But,” the bishops’ pastoral on stewardship reminds us, “that ‘life to come’ is in continuity with this present life through the human goods, the worthy human purposes, which people foster now.”

Dear Parishioners, A new commandment -- Jesus asks us but for one thing -- your heart!

Please remember our first communion kids. They will be receiving the Lord in Holy Communion for the first time this Saturday. And remember, the month of May is dedicated to the Blessed Mother. We honor Mary and ask her to keep us close to Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of

God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

God bless you all. Devotedly yours, Father Gabe

Reflection on Today’s Readings:

FOCUS: Let us become visible to the entire world as charitable disciples of Christ. We are to be reflectors of Christ’s Light to this dark world. We are to radiate Christ’s compassion to all we met in the marketplace, job site, and in Church. This is not a mere

invitation. This is the command of Jesus that we demonstrate compassionate love to the very end of our lives.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: Peril and grace lined the mission path of Paul and Barnabas. Their zeal to preach the Good News stood strong in the face of aggressive opposition. John’s dream foretells the triumph of Christ when all things will be new. Jesus, at the Last Supper, proclaimed that the core of discipleship is charitable live. He gave the new commandment to love one another.

THE WAYS OF LOVE - One can feel the energy of a young, growing Church in today’s first reading. For Paul and Barnabas, it’s smooth sailing. For the sponsoring Church at Antioch, good news. The second reading—a vision—offers a picture of triumph, pure and simple. We might paraphrase God’s direct words to read: “Don’t you see? I make all things new!” The young Church remains new and young to this day if and when it follows the command Jesus lays down in the

Gospel: “Love one another.” The attitude and actions of love define the disciples and identify them with their master. Every person on this earth can be a disciple. For discipleship does not depend on learning or sophistication or age or arcane knowledge of secret cults. We are asked to study and practice the ways of love, right here, right now in the company of ordinary people.

Ministry in Community …

Text Messaging: Understanding the Codes - Monitoring a child’s Internet browsing and cell phone use are important and challenging

aspects of being a parent and “Keeping Kids Safe”. In keeping track of your child’s text messaging, with its dizzying array of coded abbreviations and symbols, there are some codes that every parent should keep his/her eyes open for. These are codes that kids use to warn others that their parents are around or that they use to talk about sex, drugs, or to arrange a meeting. For a “Glossary of Text Messaging Abbreviations” and other related resources contact: Office of Safeguard the Children: [email protected]. For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

Ministry Equips us to deepen our love for God and share our faith…

Living Faith for Kids: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. John 13:34 To love as Jesus loves is no simple task. After all, He

gave His whole life out of love! He forgave sins, even the sins of those who beat Him and put Him to death. Can you and I love that much? The answer is yes! When we were baptized, we received the life of the Holy Spirit, and through the Spirit we can love as Jesus loves. Sometimes we may fail, but when we are sorry, we can be forgiven through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Jesus commands us to love, but He gives us the strength to do it too. Jesus, help me to love people as you do. ******************************

Today’s Readings: Acts 14:21-27 ♦ Psalm 145:8-13

Revelation 21:1-5 ♦ John 13:31-35

FACT OF LIFE - Adding Love to the World The pernicious search and destroy mission to wipe people with Down [Syndrome] off of the planet through eugenic abortion is taking so much love out of the world. Case in point: Last year, Cincinnati Reds fan, Teddy Kremer, visited the clubhouse. Joy ensued. From the Cincinnati Enquirer story: “When Cheryl gave birth to Teddy, she was told the next day by the doctor that her son would likely never smile, probably wouldn’t talk, might not walk, and would never have more than a 40 IQ.” Wrong! Last year, he was a Reds bat boy for a day: “Later, Phillips explained his delight over Ted’s exuberance. “People are blessed in their own way,” said the Reds second baseman. “Teddy came in here and blessed us with his energy and his presence that day: Enjoy life, be yourself, go out and play hard. Give it all you got. That’s Teddy. He’s a reminder to us all.” When Frazier hit a towering home run in the fourth inning to score Bruce, Frazier circled the bases and, upon entering the Reds’ dugout, bellowed, “C’mon, Teddy, give it to me!” And player and batboy exchanged a big hug.” Read the whole story and especially, look at the photos. I once cared for a developmen-tally disabled man, and the thing that struck me hard and often was how he gave others permission to offer unconditional love. Those are very good karmic seeds planted! We need our brothers and sisters with Down as much as they need us. Wesley J. Smith, LifeNews.com, April 22, 2013.
