MASS INTENTIONS FOR HOLY WEEK:

MAY 29th, 2016 - SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST: In today’s Gospel, the disciples suggest that Jesus disperse the crowd so that they might individually seek food and lodging. The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand is Jesus’ powerful reminder that when we share our gifts in His name there is always more than enough!

Birthday Anniversary ♥ Memorial Support ♦

FAITH IS Faith is not merely praying Upon our knees at night; Faith is not merely straying Through darkness into light... Faith is the brave endeavor, The splendid enterprise, The strength to serve, whatever Conditions may arise. —Anonymous

FED BY THE LORD Jesus’ words “This is my body” and “This cup is the new covenant in my blood” were only part of his table blessing. Jesus twice said: “Do this in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25). This is the good news of today’s solemnity. Like the five thousand hungry souls, we are fed by our Lord. This is not food that satisfies for only a short time, until the next meal. It is food that lasts and changes us. It is food for sharing in much the same way as Melchizedek did when he brought bread and wine to the returning Abraham. As children of God’s reign, we are blessed to be able to receive and share God’s gift. And we do so in the way most appropriate to our state in life—as parents, children, husbands, wives, or religious. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

To Receive Holy Communion (For those who are sick, hospitalized, or home bound). Please call Gloria Bowen, Eucharistic Minister to the sick at 310-670-5971.

Reflections on Today’s Readings: FOCUS: Today we celebrate the truth that Jesus left us an immeasurable gift, that of His sacred Body and Blood, which is present for us in every Mass we attend. At times, we may find it hard to comprehend that Jesus is truly here and present with us. Each time we receive Holy Communion, we truly receive Christ. Nourished and strengthened by Jesus, we draw closer to Him. Our participation in Holy Communion allows us to live in greater love and unity with one another and gives us the strength we need to share Christ’s light and love with others.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of Melchizedek, a priest of God Most High, who brought out bread and wine and gave a blessing to Abram. Abram gave him a tenth of everything. The second reading recalls Jesus’ words at the Last Supper, that when we eat this bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes again. In the Gospel, Jesus feeds a crowd of five thousand with only five small loaves of bread and two fish.

Fact of Life Please join Archbishop Gomez and people of faith throughout California for 9 Days of Prayer and Fasting before the implementation of assisted suicide in our state on Jun 9. Recite the prayer from St. John Paul II, to lift up in prayer our brothers and sisters who are elderly, disabled, or nearing the end of life.

Prayer for The Sick, Elderly and Dying O God, source of all life and hope, look kindly on our brothers and sisters facing the end of their lies, fill them with the hope of your mercy and give them peace and comfort. We pray for our citizens to choose life and fight against assisted suicide. Lord, move our hearts to work for life and for the protection of the elderly, the sick and the disabled. Renew our commitment to building a community where every human life is welcomed and wanted, valued and defended, from conception to natural death. We ask this through the intercession of Saint John Paul II. Amen.

Ministry in Community…

Increase self-esteem through praise Praise is just as important as providing

food and shelter for a child. Praise is an important aspect of raising a confident child. When you praise a child, not only doyou raise their self-esteem and self-concept but you increase their overall self-worth. One thing you can do is focus on the child and describe what you see. For example, you can say: “You are so patient. That means a lot to your little brother.” For more tips on praising children please email [email protected] or call(213) 637-7227.

Solemnity of Corpus Christi

And, after He had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying, ”This cup is the new covenant in my blood.

Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:24-26

Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At the Last Supper, knowing that the next day His earthly body would be crucified, Jesus gave His disciples the power to change bread and wine into His Sacred Body and Blood. This happens every day, in every Mass around the world. When you receive Holy Communion, you receiver Jesus completely—body, blood, soul and divinity. This is how you proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.
