Will not be taking place this Friday or for the duration of the holiday period.

It will resume in September. Purley Food Hub The Purley Food Hub is a vital resource for many people in our neighbourhood providing food and other items to people in crisis. In June, it provided 2,187 meals for its clients and their families, taking 2019's total meals so far to just short of 14,000. Since the food hub started in January 2013, it estimated that it has provided more than 145,000 meals overall! Many thanks to all those supporting the local community in this way - please continue to donate whatever you can especially as we approach the summer holiday period when children do not necessarily have access to free school meals.

We pray for Adrian Parsons RIP. for the 1st Anniversary of his death -23rd July. We remember Ian Winston RIP. Who died recently. Funeral Mass Thursday 1st August 10am.

NO LIFE BREAKFASTS DURING THE HOLIDAYS The 'LIFE Breakfasts' after the 9am Mass on Sun-days will resume on Sunday, September 1st. On behalf of the LIFE Charity we thank the teams of volunteers who have provided tasty bacon rolls or croissants and tea/coffee so cheerfully each week throughout the year, and so maintained a St Aidan's tradition going back many years.

Parish Lunch Friday 2nd August at 12 o'clock in the hall for a donation of £5.00 If you would like to join us for a buffet lunch please add your name to the list at the back of the church.

We welcome Fr. John Naughton to the parish. He was with us last summer . (Irish say ‘Nock-ton’, English say ‘Naw-ton’, - he doesn’t mind which). He lives in Portumna, Co. Galway, Ireland. He is retired from being a parish priest but helps wherever he is needed and invited. Fr. John was once a priest of our diocese of Southwark. I was a teenager at school when he was serving in the parish of Wimbledon Park where I lived having just arrived from Ireland myself. Later Fr. John returned to Ireland to take up an appointment in his native diocese of Clonfert. I am grateful to Fr. John for his generosity in covering for my holiday and I know you will welcome him back again. As well as saying Mass he will be visiting the sick and housebound and doing whatever is needed over the next few weeks.

We keep our Lourdes group in our prayers and we know that they will be remembering us on their pilgrimage.

This is the last Newsletter before the summer break. If you are fortunate enough to enjoy a holiday we wish you a safe journey and a relaxing time.

Pope's Prayer Intention for July.

That those who administer justice may work with integrity and that the injustice which prevails in the world may not have the last word.

FLOATING SHELTER: One of our regular volunteers was walking down Chipstead Valley Road last week whilst the rubbish men were about their business. Suddenly, one of the bin men called after him, pulled off his work gloves and shook him vigorously by the hand saying would he tell everyone at the Floating Shelter how grateful he was for the care and help they gave him last year. That's just the story of one of our guests who moved on to regular steady work after life in our shelter. There are many more. For every shelter volunteer who is recognised in the street there are many others who work in the background on a host of jobs which provide our guests with some comfort. One of those is laundry. A dedicated team works to ensure each guest has a clean bed every night. Could YOU be part of that team? THIS IS AN URGENT REQUEST: We need one person to take responsibility for drawing up a rota (can be done by hand) in September for our launderers and several other volunteers each to do an occasional delivery run around Coulsdon during November/December to those who actually do the laundry. If you can help please contact: Croydon Churches' Floating Shelter Co-Ordinator: Leonie Wilding - 01737 556508, [email protected] St Aidan's Floating Shelter Contact: Maureen Lee - [email protected]
