THE HOLY SPIRIT “The Holy Spirit draws us into the mystery of the living God and saves us from the threat of a Church which is gnostic and self-referential, closed in on herself; He impels us to open the doors and go forth to proclaim and bear witness to the goodness of the Gospel. Pope Francis

CHANGE OF SUMMER MASS SCHEDULE
Within a few weeks, summer vacations will begin, and many families will leave Key Biscayne to take a break elsewhere. Since during these months the Mass attendance is reduced, beginning on Sunday, June 7th, until September 6th, 2015, the Mass schedule will be as follows:

Gospel reading John 15:26-27
Jesus said to his disciples; “When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.”
*Originally the Jewish feast to offer God the first fruits of the harvest. It was celebrated seven weeks after Passover; thus, the Greek name Pentekoste, meaning the 50th day.
As the Church celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the first disciples, the gospel reading takes us back to the last discourse of Jesus before the Passion. With these words, Jesus anticipated the coming of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of John uses the name Paraclete (counselor or advocate, defense attorney) to refer to the Holy Spirit who was to be sent by the Father, at the request of Jesus. That same Spirit had worked in the life of Jesus before the resurrection and was present with God at the Creation of the world. The Gospel also indicates that the Holy Spirit and the disciples would bear witness on Jesus’ behalf. The theme of witnessing or giving testimony is used frequently by John. As someone who knows Jesus intimately, the Holy Spirit will witness to his true identity before those who hate and persecute him and his disciples.
Brief commentary
Today’s reading offers three significant messages:
♦ “Declare to you the things that are coming,” is not a reference to new predictions about the future, but interpretation of what has already occurred or been said.
♦ The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self control. (Galatians 5:16-25)
♦ The Spirit comes to the disciples so that they might witness to Jesus’ resurrection.
For our shared or personal reflection: After a brief pause for silent reflection share your answers, ideas or feelings.
1. What gifts has God given me and how am I using them to help others?
2. In what ways is my behavior as a Christian challenging or changing the values around me?

Hay diferentes dones,
pero el Espíritu es el mismo. — 1 Corintios 12:4

1. ¿Qué dones he recibido de Dios y
