Honors and Awards Goals

• Recognizing the Very Best in Our Industry

• Recognizing outstanding achievement is one of the primary responsibilities of the Institute.  AIAA proudly meets this responsibility through its honors and awards program.  The program regularly and conscientiously surveys the aerospace field, identifies practitioners in its arts and sciences who have made notable and significant contributions, and honors them in public ceremonies

• Recognition of your profession and your peers cannot happen without YOU!– Consider submitting worthy professionals in our business!

presented for outstanding achievement in the development or application

of rocket propulsion systems.

the authors

• Submit 2005 best papers to Award Committee/AIAA National (submit form from your session)– Evaluate for technical content, originality, practical application, and

Undergraduate/Graduate Involvement

• Ft. Lauderdale 2004/Reno 2005

– SRTC voted to give 3 US universities $1000 each to support (aerospace/SRM) engineering activities• Only one followed through for the funding (Haaland)!

–University of Illinois

– Why? Provide monies to keep university students involved in aerospace/SRM projects

– What should AIAA/SRTC ask in return from the universities?• Papers at the student AIAA conferences, AIAA JPC, etc.?

• Brief report on the activities performed?

Page 11: SRTC Awards Subcommittee Report July 2005 Clyde Carr, Chairman Members: Roberto Di Salvo Mark Langhenry Jamie Neidert Brian Katz William Kearney Herman

Undergraduate/Graduate Involvement (cont)

– Should we formalize the process with an application or use the voting process at the STRC meeting at the JPC?

• Send to several universities known to have SRM related programs– Auburn, Alabama, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, etc.

– Yes was the suggestion at the 2005 Reno meeting• I have not yet developed a form/format, etc.

• Any volunteers?

• Any suggestions for what should be on this “form”– I would like to keep it simple…

• I am Professor Rocket man and have X students pursing new, hot technologies on propellants that are colored purple and blue with white stripes…….. I would like you to consider the project and a $1000 award to continue the work. I/we will report back to the SRTC at the next JPC meeting in written or oral form detailing the progress with said funding.

– SRTC thoughts and input….?
