WELCOME

The 2017 Spring Season is upon us and with Spring come new transformations. We at NAEC are excited to debut some new and exciting transformations of our own. As you read through and flip the pages of our Spring Issue, you’ll notice a new feel and format to our Mainline publication. The Mainline is a one of our most valuable communication pieces and we take enormous pride in the industry and the com-munity that make the content of our Mainline issues what they are. Therefore we always want to look ahead for ways to keep Mainline relevant and valuable, and with the amazing members that make NAEC we will always have great content to share with you, the reader.

We’re especially proud of our cover and the new version of our NAEC Shield logo. The NAEC logo is a symbol of strength, stability, credibility and confidence. The shield is a part of who we are and our history as an association. Our goal with the new logo was to capture those key attributes of strength in our original logo and make it cleaner, sharper and more modern. We hope you’re as excited as we are with the new look. There are more new brand initiatives to come and we look forward to sharing them with our amazing NAEC friends, colleagues and members.

Cheers,

NAEC

Spring Forward!

SPRING 2017 3

This year marks the 31st anniversary of MCE’s membership with NAEC. MCE is proud of its membership and would like to thank NAEC for its support and dedication to its members.

Founded in 1983, Motion Control Engineering, Inc. (MCE) was one of the early pioneers in the development of microprocessor-based non-proprietary, universally serviceable elevator controls. It all started with founders, Javad Rahimian, Majid Rahimian and Don Alley. They were three engineers with entrepreneurial dreams that would revolutionize the elevator control industry.

Building owners began to embrace this new generation of non-pro-prietary equipment with on-board diagnostics (no service tool required). Elevator consultants tailored non-proprietary project specifications in response to their clients’ growing preference. It

became increasingly common to see specifications for equipment that would say: “Serviceable and Maintainable by any qualified elevator maintenance provider capable of maintaining apparatus of similar design and complexity.”

Today, with more than 170,000 controllers sold, MCE is the largest and most successful independent elevator control manufacturer in the world. MCE’s customers include consultants, contractors and building owners.

MCE’s quality products are designed to provide the lowest cost of ownership; to provide the flexibility and scalability to meet the needs of today and tomorrow; and to be cost effective when upgrades are required. MCE’s products are designed, built and supported with the building owner’s best interest in mind.

One of MCE’s cores of excellence is our Technical Support team. Extensive customer care and support is a differentiating characteristic of MCE’s non-proprietary equipment. A team of more than 55 individuals is dedicated to offer telephone and job-site support.

Innovation and new technology are among MCE’s core strengths. Starting with our first generation of hydraulic controls (HMC-1000) and the DC Variable Voltage Generator Control (Black Box), MCE established itself as a reputable supplier to the elevator industry. It followed that with the introduction of the IMC platform in the mid 1990’s. The IMC platform with the 12-Pulse SCR Drive enabled MCE’s independent customers to compete in the high-speed DC gearless market which changed the landscape of the indus-try. MCE’s commitment to innovation continued with the introduction of the iControl Platform in the early 2000’s. Till today, the iControl platform remains the most advanced and capable control system available in the market. Coupled with MCE’s Destination-Based-Dispatching (DBD), the iControl platform is the ideal product for multi-car group, multi-bank elevators in high rise buildings.

MCE’s controls have been installed in some pretty amazing and iconic places, such as the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol and the State Department, in addition to dozens of universities, hospitals and prestigious buildings.

In 2012, Nidec, the world’s largest motor manufacturer, acquired MCE, as a part of Kinetek, from The Jordan Company. MCE is fortunate to be a member of the global family of Nidec compa-nies. Nidec’s global footprint and vast resources will be a catalyst for MCE’s growth and innovation engine. Nidec’s slogan is All for dreams. It’s a fitting slogan for MCE’s vision for innovation and technology.

When our security phones recently were selected by the Office of the Architect of the Capitol for the new Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C., we stepped back and thought about the remarkable journey that has brought us where we are today. More than thirty years ago, when K-Tech International began, we ran our operation out of a garage.

Today, we have a research and development team that is staffed by some of the best engineers in the industry. We have a testing lab that other companies only dream about. And, we have prod-ucts installed in buildings like the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, the University of Connecticut, Harvard University and other similarly prominent structures all over the world. We have also been active members of NAEC since 1986.

Our security phones, load-weighing systems, and barricades have set new standards for the market place. All of our products are proudly made in the USA. Our Tech-support also is US-based, free, and rivaled by none. In 2010, we demonstrated just how confident we are in our products by adopting a no-questions-asked, 3-year

Magnetek, a leading designer and manufacturer of elevator drives, today announced the addition of Hariprasadh Rajasekaran as an Application Engineer for its Elevator Drives business in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Rajasekaran will oversee product start-ups, provide product

training, and act as a technical resource in the Asia-Pacific region including Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Australia.

“We are extremely pleased Hari has agreed to join our team and believe he will be instrumental in advancing the adoption of our state-of-the-art elevator drives in the Asia-Pacific region. He will provide customers with superb technical service and support,” said Ed Butte, director of Magnetek’s elevator drives business. “Hari will be reporting to Vincent Hoe, Magnetek’s Asia-Pacific Business Development Manager, and will be able to provide on-site support to current and new customers.”

Mr. Rajasekaran earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from RVD University and completed a three year course in Mechatronics from NTTF Institute. He previously worked

at Fuji Electric Asia Pacific Ltd. as a Senior Service Engineer, providing customer support and service engineering in the Asia-Pacific region.

warranty. Our advances in the elevator industry include a number of firsts: we developed and brought to market the first vandal resistant emergency phone; the first cross-head load weighing system for elevators; and the first barricade system for elevator and escalator work sites.

We grew to become what we are today by a simple formula: faith, hard work, ingenuity, and putting our customers first.

We welcome your decision to benefit from our remarkable and blessed journey.
