The finance link that we offer exclusively to Paramount dealers has taken on a life of its own this past year. Depending on how and where you place the link on your website really determines its affect on your business. To help capture this business and to further offer better service, we have created an automated response email custom-ized to each dealer’s finance link. Not only will every customer who applies on a dealer’s Paramount finance link receive an email thanking them for choosing Paramount Capital but the dealer will as well. WHILE WE HAVE ENDURED A RATHER challenging economic climate the last several years there are some signs that things have improved and will perhaps continue to improve. In spite of escalating gas prices retail sales still managed to post their highest gain in four months and auto sales have been strong. In the midst of tough times it’s easy for our business thoughts to drift towards thoughts of survival. However – I believe the ones that “get it” are thinking about how they can make the most of the situation.
Even if our businesses are not growing because of challenging times, we still must prepare and position ourselves for better times. Now is the time to be de-veloping new business plans so you can separate and pull yourself away from your competitors.
I think the two most important words to keep in mind in developing a successful new business plan are “positioning” and “differentiation”.
DIFFERENTIATION
Differentiation refers to our ability to separate ourselves, our products and our services from that of our competitors.
Differentiating is the true advantage that we have over our competitors in the marketplace; the unique and special ben-efits that no one else can give our customers.
Your differentiation strategy must be an integrated set of actions designed to produce or deliver goods and services that customers perceive as being important and of value to them.
Being uniquely different is perhaps more important today than it ever was because if you aren’t “different” you really can only compete on price. Creating value through differ-entiation gives you the opportunity to compete at higher prices.
When you find ways to be uniquely different, your compe-tition becomes less relevant.
POSITIONING
Positioning is about how you differentiate your products and services in the mind of the customer.
Positioning your company could be a difficult task. Po-sitioning your company must be developed from careful research about your brand. You must find out: a) How the market place and your customers see your
company. b)What do your customers value.
NOW IS THE TIME TO POSITION YOUR BUSINESSES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE IMPROVING ECONOMY
c) What you know about your company and the cus-tomer value it creates.
Positioning should be a foundation for action to de-sign, manage and defend your brand. It should be the foundation for everything you do; what customer value
you create, what you value, what is your sustainable competitive advantage, how you conduct your business and how you communicate and interact with custom-ers.
I’ll give you one competitive advantage; you can start working on (If you already haven’t) is your “Company Culture”.
The strength of your company’s culture is one of the most fundamental competi-tive advantages. If you can build and nurture a culture of innovation, a culture of commitment, one where employees passionately pursue your organization’s cause and mission, you will be in a better position for success.
Company culture is the collective behav-ior of people using common company vi-sion, goals, shared values, beliefs, habits, attitudes and priorities of its employees. Strong leadership is required not only to transform your company culture but also to sustain it over time.
I will leave you with this question. “What is the purpose of your business?”
If you answered this way, “To make a profit”, I don’t think you are “getting it”. I believe that sustainable profits only come as a result of successfully creating and keeping customers over the long haul. If your business successfully creates and keeps customers in a cost effec-tive way, your business will make a profit while continu-ing to survive and thrive.

We Just Returned From The Caribbean
Thanks to all of our guests and vendor partners who
recently participated in the Caribbean Cruise portion of
“Choose Your Cruise”. Nearly 200 people enjoyed a
fun, relaxing week onboard Royal Caribbean’s beau-
tiful Serenade of the Seas. After departing San Juan
we visited the scenic ports of St. Thomas, Antigua, St.
Croix and Grenada.
“Clients really enjoy our Passport to Paradise trips and
they truly have become like family reunions,” com-

DALE EARNHARDT JR. HAS EARNED SEVERAL awards and accolades in his NASCAR career. He has been featured for several years as being one of Amer-ica’s top 10 favorite athletes. Business Week magazine named him to its top 100 most influential people in sports, ranking him 38th overall. He has ap-peared on more than 150 magazine covers and has been featured in high-profile publications such as Maxim, Rolling Stone, GQ, Men’s Journal, Sports Illustrated, People magazine and TV Guide. And now, perhaps his finest appearance of all – his Para-mount Powered Pool built by Falling Water Custom Pools now featured in the Paramount Dealer Insider. Bryan O’Neal, owner of Falling Water Custom Pools, has been in business since 2001. His company is located in the center of NASCAR country in Concord, North Carolina and neigh-boring city Charlotte has been award-ed the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Several drivers live in the area and continue to build and upgrade their homes.

A few years ago, O’Neal received a call from Earnhardt’s property manager asking him to come meet with Earn-hardt to discuss his backyard pool. Earnhardt had read about O’Neal and Falling Water Custom Pools in an ar-ticle they had been featured in. The article mentioned O’Neal’s own pool, which had a Hawaiian theme and in-cluded an island in the center with a spa and tiki bridge, waterfalls, and a beach entry. Earnhardt apparently wanted something very similar, which Falling Water Custom Pools was able to offer.
“I let the yard tell me what to do. I do not work against the grade of the yard. I do not like using tons of fill dirt, so some pools need to be a vanishing edge design and help break the grade and others benefit from installing water-falls and boulders versus installing a normal retaining wall,” said O’Neal about his design and building style. This pool was no different. The pool also features a Paramount PCC2000 system.
Falling Water Custom Pools is slightly different from their competitors. For example, they perform almost all the work themselves and very rarely hire subcontractors. O’Neal is at every project, helping along and making sure everything goes right. He believes that the more difficult the pool is to
build, the better. He likes a challenge in his projects and likes to think out solutions, which may be more difficult when you have several subcontrac-tors who work for several companies. If the pool needs more time, then he doesn’t rush it, which allows him to avoid making mistakes. He makes sure all the details are covered so that no imperfections appear to the client once they get to know their pool.
O’Neal is focused on what lies ahead. He feels that in-house service depart-ments and maintenance divisions are a must have in his business. He now has someone in house who cleans the pools he builds. This has several ben-efits according to O’Neal. First, you can maintain the pool and products correctly. Second, you can find and fix any problems before the homeowner notices them. Third, it leaves a paper trail for warranty purposes.
O’Neal is dedicated to not only bet-tering his company, but also the in-dustry’s reputation. “I want to see our industry focusing on quality and high standards of workmanship. We need to quit selling horsepower and pretty sheer descents, but sell proper instal-lation techniques and explain the ben-efits of procedures such as proper sized plumbing, waterproofing, and quality workmanship.”

I AM A PROUD MOTHER OF THREE GREAT BOYS, WIFE OF AN AMAZING MAN, AND A FULL-TIME DESIGNER FOR PREMIER POOLS & SPAS. I started my career with Premier seven years ago working in the scheduling department. It was a great way to learn about all phases of construction, as well as how to work with our customers who may be a little anxious during the construction process. I also ran our Design Center and assisted our clients with picking out tile and plaster, as well as up-selling other op-
tions. From this experience, I realized that I loved working closely with people, especially when I am helping them to fulfill their dreams. The natural progression for me was to become a designer. With the support of Premier’s owners, Paul Porter and Keith Harbeck, that happened more than a year ago. Premier’s com-
pany culture is based on everyone working together to make the best product and to provide the ulti-mate customer service experience. I appreciate the constant support of our in-house staff as well as the best product manufacturers the pool industry has to offer. There is no better example of that than John Anderson and Paramount Pool & Spa Systems. He and his products are second to none. With more awareness of the importance of going “Green”, our customers appreciate the fact that we offer alterna-tive solutions to keeping their pool clean. I am a big proponent of using Paramount’s in- floor system in conjunction with the Clear O3, allowing our custom-ers to reduce the amount of chemicals used in their pool by 70%. I know that with Paramount’s cutting edge technology, there will be many more innovative products coming down the pike. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found my dream career and to be able to proudly sell the finest quality con-structed and equipped pools in the country.
I’VE BEEN IN THE INDUSTRY FOR 18 SEASONS, I’ve worked for Premier 9 of those. I chose Premier because I loved the friendly atmosphere and awe-some teamwork. And, after interviewing with Paul Porter I found they had the same business model I did with lots of passion for doing the right thing and focusing on the customer’s satisfaction and that was a must for me. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the excitement on your customer’s faces both at the dig and then when there’s water going into their pool once it’s finished. Jimmy was awarded our prestigious Golden Poppy Award for going above and beyond his normal job duties and responsibilities. Since Oc-tober Jimmy has stepped up not only performing his duties as National Technical Support Manager but also taking on the responsibility of lead-ing our sales efforts in the Arizona/New Mexico region. He did it with a smile and with his usual determination to take care of our customers. The best is that it was really seamless to our customers. Thanks Jimmy for being the team player you truly are!
Denise received the Golden Poppy Award last December in recognition of her great work on sourcing a new vendor for one of Paramount’s key pro-prietary components. Denise on her own found a new supplier and worked as the liaison between the vendor and Paramount’s engineering departments to get samples for testing to insure product quality standards while improv-ing lead times. All this was achieved along with a reduction of material costs. Denise has embraced the challenge of purchasing with little previous experience and has really blossomed. Paramount is proud to have her as part of the Paramount family.
