REGISTRATION FORM – students in grades 2 to 6 Spotlight on Black Heritage event Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.) HJA Brown Education Centre - 5650 Hurontario Street in Mississauga The Spotlight on Black Heritage event gives students an opportunity to participate and deepen their understanding of the culture and heritage of our diverse black community. During the event, students will enjoy the main presentation followed by two interactive, engaging and educational workshops. Participation is limited to a maximum of 300 people. Therefore, each school may bring a maximum of 5 people (1 adult and 4 students). Your group will be able to attend two of the three workshops at this event. When you fill in the registration form below, select the two session you would like to attend and we will do our best to accommodate all selections. Requests to bring more students and staff will be accommodated if space is available. Space will be booked on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, submit your completed form by Wednesday, February 5, 2014 to Felicia Carepa via e-mail at [email protected]. You will receive an e-mail to confirm your school’s registration. Please note that only schools who are registered may attend this event. ___ Voices of youth: Uniting our community– Students will participate in an interactive, hands-on presentation to learn how various historical figures have used their voices to make a difference to unite communities.

___ Photography: How well do you know your heroes?– Using photos of popular black Canadian heroes, heroines and modern icons, students will test their knowledge and discuss how these individuals used their voices to initiate change in their communities.

___ Storytelling through music and the arts – Students will have an opportunity to tap into their creativity to share stories and celebrate black history through spoken word, hip hop and other musical outlets.
