What is the PlayMaker Award? The PlayMaker Award is a great introduction into leadership giving learners knowledge of how to organise small games and activities that can be used during curricular and extra-curricular time, lunchtimes, breaks, as well as in sports clubs outside school hours. The PlayMaker Award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisa-tion, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of assisting in leading their peers and younger children. Who is the PlayMaker Award for? Anyone can become a PlayMaker, regard-less of their sporting experience or prowess. The PlayMaker Award is designed in a way so that learners can participate and learn about key leadership skills. The recom-mended age range is 9-11.
1— Focus on the four core areas of leadership – Participants, Area, Communication and Equipment. 2— Includes access to comprehensive resources which are easy to use. 3— Leadership challenges give ideas on how PlayMakers can put their basic leadership skills into practice after the course. 4— Links with the home encourages home/school links through the inclusion of home based activities and by asking parents/carers to contribute to learners’ Leadership Journals. 5— Additional recognition of achievement through downloadable Bronze, Silver, Gold and Outstanding Achievement certificates. 6— Supports Key Stage 2 curriculum for English, physical education, PSHE and citizenship.

WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCILSPORT PROGRAMME UPDATE GAA
In 2015 Wexford Coaching and Games (C&G) focused on Learning and Development, Talent Academies & Camps. The formation of the new Model Academy Program was an exciting and important step for the county. The tutor group under the chair of Damien Quigley have provided foundation and award 1 courses to ensure all coaches are adhering to the mandatory coaching standards set down by the GAA for 2016. Wexford Coaching and Games Development is indebted to so many dedicated Coaches, Men-
tors, Teachers, and Referees in our Clubs and Schools across the county that made 2015 an-
other great year for Wexford GAA and we look forward to working with and for them all in 2016.
CE Coaching Scheme
We are very fortunate to have a high quality of coaches
currently working on the CE Coaching Scheme. This
provides endless hours of Gaelic Games for our chil-
dren in the primary schools as well as working on our
Cúl Camps.
Wexford GAA saw its most successful summer camp pro-gramme in 2015 with 4,200 children taking part in thirty three camps across the county. We want to make 2016 even more successful and this year we are providing an additional 12 camps with new clubs such as Cloughbawn, St James and Marshalstown hosting their first ever camps. Another addition is the introduction of a second camp in the clubs with the biggest numbers last year.
Places can now be booked online for this summer at:
www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie Camps start on July 4
th and will run over the summer with the last week running August 15

Coach Education
Over the last 3 months, 12 workshop have been run right
across the county with over 400 coaches taking part.
These courses were delivered by the full time games de-
velopment team and have been a real hit with people
who have attended.
Coaches in the county have received their certificates
from courses in 2015 and early 2016 with courses
remaining in Oulart the Ballagh & Cushinstown. Over the last number of months formal coach education has taken off within the county with over 150 coaches undertaking the foundation award with 113 coaches completing the Award 1. Wexford are also holding a prestigious Award 2 hurling course in Rathnure as well as sending coaches to Carlow for an Award 2 football. Full details of all courses can be found on:

Academy Squads – Model Academy Wexford Coaching and Games Model Óg and Model Academies are now well underway with all teams finalising the trial phase. We would like to wish all players who have been selected in their respective squads the best of luck in training to prepare for the upcoming blitzes. One of the great partnerships has been with the Community Coaching program which is hosted by Innovate Wexford Park along with Sports Active. During the year many events are run that need the assistance of the local authorities. Events
such as Hurling on the Quay, Easter Camps and our U17 Shinty International would not take
place without their assistance.

WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL SPORT PROGRAMME UPDATE - RUGBY
The Partnership CCRO’s: Leinster rugby is reaching out in Wexford town to early school leavers. CCROs will be go-ing into the Wexford Youthreach, which started on Monday February 29th, to introduce a leadership program on site. Rugby is now being included in the PE classes for New Ross Vocational College and, over the next few months, these classes will increase. A lot of the pupils in the school come from disadvantaged social backgrounds so any sport, rugby in particular, can have a very posi-tive effect on them. Through the combined efforts of Leinster rugby, local council and the HSE we are now looking to work with a small group of individuals who suffer from various types of mental illness which, as we now know, is a massive social issue in Ireland. In Gorey, primary schools had a 6 week Tag rugby program, the children seemed to enjoy the sessions and a number of them have now gone onto joining some of the local rugby clubs. These schools were; Kilmuckridge, Castletown, Colgreany, Gorey CBS, Carnew, and Gorey Central.
In St Peters College Secondary School a course (TY Coaching Course) where students are educated to become coaches and, once they finish the course, we will have them run a blitz day for the local schools where they will be tasked with the running and coaching for the day. This will be overseen by the Leinster rugby community rugby officers.
Presentation Secondary (All Girls) Tag rugby sessions have been delivered to the girls in their PE classes. They have shown a lot of interest and a couple have started to attend club training which has helped to fur-ther grow the girls game with the Wexford Wanderers who, at the start of the season, had no Under 15 girls team. They now have 25-30 in the squad as well as the Under 18 girls team also receiving good numbers.

UPDATES For 2016
The National Physical Activity Plan This was launched in January and highlights the plans for improving participation in physical activity over the next 10 years. The key target of the plan is to increase the number of people taking regular exercise by 1% a year over ten years – that’s around 50,000 people every year or half a million in total – by making exercise a normal part of everyday life and giving people more opportunities to be active. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment but the goal couldn’t be more serious, as seven out of ten adults don’t get enough exercise. At least €5.5 million in funding across the three De-partments has been ring-fenced to implement the Plan in 2016, comprising sports measures, Healthy Ireland initiatives, Sport Ireland programme funding, and education pro-jects.

Go For Life Grants The Sports Partnership Received €1000 in the Annual Grant Allocation, this will be used to continue our work with the Older Adults Groups with particular attention in 2016 to working with those people in this age group. The Small Grant Scheme is a joint initiative between Age & Opportunity’s Go for Life programme and Sport Ireland. Grants are available to all eligible local clubs, groups and organisations that promote increased participation in recreational sport or physical ac-tivity for older people as a main element of their activities. A total of €300,000 will be availa-ble in grants in 2015. Over €14000 were given in grants to groups in County Wexford.
