Our region has always been and still
remains a sport region now. We are proud
of our sportsmen´s achievements.
All Irkutsk athletes are the real nuggets
which could defend the right to participate
in serious competitions and achieve
brilliant results irrespective of conditions
in which they trained. Activists of the
Irkutsk region were pioneers in many kinds
of sport in Siberia "deaf" from innovations.
And now almost in all kinds of sport -
volleyball, hockey, athletics, taekwondo,
pole vault, boxing, bobsled, wrestling there
are Olympic champions in the Angara
region.
* Averbukh Alexander (pole vaults) – a participant of the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Belova Irina (athletics) – a silver medalist of the XXV Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992.
* Chizhova Nadezhda (shot put) - a bronze medalist of the XIX Olympic Games in Mexico 1968, champion of the XX Olympic Games in Munich 1972, silver medalist of the XXI Olympic Games in Montreal 1976.
* Chumatchenko Paul (shot put) – a participant of the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Dmitrieva Darya (gymnastics) – a silver medalist of the XXX Olympic Games in London 2012.
* Dudin Valeriy (tobogganer) – a bronze medalist of the XIV Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo 1984.
* Goyshik Tatyana (track and field athletics) – a champion of the XXII Olympic Games in Moscow 1980.
* Ivanova Natalia (taekwondo) – a silver medalist of the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Khodakov Sergei (discus throwing, shot put, javelin) – a silver medalist of the IX Summer Paralympic Games in Barcelona 1992, silver medalist of the X Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta 1996, champion of the XI Summer Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Konovalov Ivan (running) – a participant of the XXV Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992.
* Mishin Mikhail (boxing) – a participant of the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Pakeev Albert (boxing) – a bronze medalist of the XXVI Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996.
* Palchikov Yevgeniy (shot put) – a participant of the XXVI Olympic Games in Atlanta 1996.
* Volkov Konstantin (pole vaults) – a silver medalist of the XXII Olympic Games in Moscow 1980.
* Vyrupaev Konstantin (wrestling) – a champion of the XVI Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956, bronze medalist of the XVII Olympic Games in Rome 1960.
* Safronov Vladimir (boxing) – a champion of the XVI Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956.
* Semenova Olga (athletics) – a silver medalist of the X Summer Paralympic Games in Atlanta 1996, champion of the XI Summer Paralympic Games in Sydney 2000.
* Vorobieva Natalia (freestyle wrestling) – a champion of the XXX Olympic Games in London 2012.
* Zubkov Alexander (bobsleigh) – a silver medalist of the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin 2006, bronze medalist of the XXI Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010.
Nadezhda Chizhova is a Soviet athlete,
champion of the XX Olympic Games in the shot
put.
Nadezhda was born on the 29 of September
1945 in Usolie-Sibirskoe.
Nadezhda Chizhova began to go in for
athletics at the age of 10 years old. Her coach
was Dmitry Gladyshev. After graduating from
medical college in her native town she entered
the State Institute of Physical Culture in
Leningrad. Her new coach was Viktor Alekseev.
At the beginning of an international career
Nadezhda won two gold medals at the Junior
European Championships - in the discus throw
and shot put (with a world record for juniors).
From 1968 to 1973, she has set eight world
records in the shot put. At the Olympic Games in
Mexico she won the bronze medal.
In 1969 Nadezhda became the first female
athlete in the world with a result of the 20-
meters. In 1971 Chizhova repeated her previous
record in the competition in Moscow, and
improved it up to 20.63 in May 1972.
At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972,
she set a new world record - 21.03 meters.
At the 1976 Olympics in Montreal
Chizhova won the silver medal with a score of
20.96.
In addition to Olympic victories Nadezhda
Chizhova has won 4 summer and 3 winter
European Championships, 9 USSR
championships, set 10 national records. After
finishing her sport career she worked as a coach.
She is the Honorary Master of Sports of the
USSR (1968) and the Honorary coach of Russia
(1992).
She was awarded by two Orders of the Red
Banner, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, a
medal «For merits in the development of
physical culture and sport».
No one before and after her,
nobody of the Russian
representatives of this type of
martial arts Taekwondo was
unable to achieve such outstanding
results, as Natalia Ivanova.
She is a winner and prize-
winner of the world Cup, three-
time European champion, the
sevenfold champion of the
country, silver medalist of the
Olympiad in Sydney in the most
prestigious weight category.
Her medal won in the Summer
Games in 2000, still remains the
only one in the collection of
Russian Olympic team.
Natalia was born on the 1 of
September 1971 in Usolie-
Sibirskoe.
She graduated from Irkutsk
pedagogical Institute
(Department of Russian
language and literature).
She has been the member of
the national team of Russia in
Taekwondo since 1993.
Now she lives in Irkutsk. She
is the head of the Department of
physical culture and sports in
administration of Irkutsk.
Her hobbies are music and
literature.
