I invite you to participate as a Sponsor of the 13th Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) Conference, on the theme of “Sharing Learning: Lessons from the sustainability community”, taking place at the Novotel, Sydney Olympic Park on the 25-27 September 2013. The conference will provide a unique opportunity to promote and showcase sustainability practices, tools, achievements and capacity building initiatives to sustainability professionals and decision makers.

I am also delighted to invite you to sponsor the 2013 Green Gown Awards Australasia. The Awards recognise the excellent work and continued progress to embed sustainability into further and higher education institutions, and is held in conjunction with the ACTS Conference every year. Sponsoring a Green Gown Award Australasia not only means you will be associated with THE sustainability awards in tertiary education, it also provides your organisation with the opportunity to connect with key staff in the sector. We are keen to build working relationships with businesses who see the value in sustainability, and importantly, in connecting with those who practice sustainability within tertiary education. If this sounds of interest then I encourage you to get involved with this prestigious event.

I am confident that by becoming a sponsor of the ACTS Conference or the Green Gown Awards Australasia (or both!), together we can realise the benefits to your organisation as highlighted in this document.

Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) is a member led organisation for the tertiary education sector in Australia and New Zealand. Founded in 1990, we were incorporated in 2006 and have seen unprecedented growth since. Our aims are simple: to inspire, promote and support change towards best practice sustainability within the operations, curriculum and research of the Australasian tertiary education sector. We do this by providing resources, knowledge, developmental and networking opportunities for members and by critically challenging and supporting collaboration with stakeholders to lead sustainability innovation in the sector.

This aim is supported through a number of projects and initiatives:

• Coordinating the Annual ACTS Conference • Workshops, training and professional development opportunities • ACTS Scholarships • The Green Gown Awards Australasia (GGAA) • Exclusive members only access to web based resources • Regional based events • Provision of learning and development tools • Communication materials • Dissemination of case studies and sector communications

Sharing Learning: Lessons from the sustainability community

Past ACTS Conference Sponsors

Sustainability, and how to achieve it, is undoubtedly a growing discussion topic amongst organisations and the broader community. Examples of good practice can to be found in almost every sector and industry. Yet we still question, how is sustainability being addressed? The ACTS conference is about answering that question by sharing our learning.

The conference provides opportunity for professionals working or interested in the field of sustainability, social responsibility and environmental management to share new ideas and successes with peers, while while advancing knowledge of current and emerging issues. Attending particpants will enhance their ability to confidently discuss new directions with colleagues and be active in implementing initiatives within relevant sectors. Conference delegates consist of individuals in the following roles:

• Tertiary educators (professors, heads of schools, teaching staff)

• Facility, environmental and office managers and practitioners

• State and Federal Government representatives

• Sustainability professionals

• Students and student leaders

• Vendors and consultants

• Other related professionals and professional organisations

No matter whether you are starting out, or well on your way to embedding sustainability into core business, this conference will be of relevance to you. Hear from those who are making the change. Learn from them, and share your own learning as well. Don’t miss the opportunity to leverage off the expertise and experience of others.

A Unique Sponsorship Opportunity to Associate Your Organisation with

THE Leading Sustainability Awards Scheme

10

The Green Gown Awards Australasia is the FIRST and only Award scheme dedicated to recognising excellence in sustainability within the tertiary education sector in Australia and New Zealand. Now in their fourth year, the Awards aim to recognise those institutions that are leading the way, providing a real and very positive platform for others to aspire to.

ABOUT THE GREEN GOWN AWARDS

History of the Green Gown AwardsFounded in 2004 in the UK by HEEPI, and now run by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), the UK Awards were created to recognise and reward those institutions making a positive impact towards sustainability within the education sector. As sustainability has moved up the global agenda, within business, government and at home, the Green Gown Awards have provided the opportunity to recognise and reward sustainability excellence. They have grown in size, reputation and prestige year on year, gaining high credibility and recognition within the sector. They are now firmly embedded in the UK education sector calendar and are THE sustainability Award to win!

Celebrating SuccessFollowing the extremely successful launch of the Awards in Melbourne in 2010, the Green Gown Awards Australasia have since been hosted at the prestigious National Wine Centre in Adelaide in 2011, and the historical Customs House in Brisbane in 2012, as part of the highly anticipated annual ACTS Conference Dinner. Each ceremony has been afantastic event to showcase and celebrate best practice sustainability in the tertiary education sector.

With over 20% of Australasian institutions submitting an application in 2012, 14 institutions were recognised and rewarded for their excellent achievements. 130 international delegates, from education, industry and government attended the Awards dinner.

International Green Gown AwardsFor the first time, 2012 saw ACTS partner with the EAUC for the inaugural International Green Gown Awards. The new Awards saw the Australasian winners compete with the UK winners to claim the ‘international’ title in three categories. The International winner’s were announced on the 6 November 2012 at the UK Green Gown Awards in London. ACTS was delighted to see Australasian institution - the University of Technology, Sydney - Students’ Association win the International Student Initiatives and Campaigns award with “Bluebird Brekkie: free sustainable pop-up café”.

Combining the excellence from the UK and Australasia, ACTS President Leanne Denby says “internationalising the Awards provides further opportunity to share learning and experience to ensure that as a sector we continue to improve, progress and recognise the great work being done. These Awards show that the tertiary education sector is committed to sharing examples of best practice internationally and at home, further demonstrating the critical role tertiary education plays in delivering sustainability.”

ACTS looks forward to delivering the International Green Gown Awards with the EAUC again in 2013.

Capitalising on this success, the 2013 Awards will see 8 categories open for applications on Monday 3 June 2013, with an even greater number of submisssions expected than the previous two years.

Why are these Awards Special?Following in the footsteps of the UK, the Awards are fast becoming THE most prestigious recognition of sustainability best practice in Australia and New Zealand.

The Awards allow potential sponsors the opportunity to reach influential individuals that make decisions within tertiary education institutions: in facilities management; senior management and academia, as well as individuals within other sector support organisations, government decision makers and business. Exposure is through our national and international communication channels and networks prior to, during and after the Awards. All sponsors are given maximum exposure throughout the Awards Cycle.

Sponsors are also given the opportunity to take part in the judging of the Awards (subject to conflict of intererst), for excellent networking opportunities, as well as presenting an Award at the Awards ceremony, allowing high profile exposure of your organisation to distinguished guests.

Run by ACTS, the 2013 Awards will be announced at a fabulous dinner and Awards ceremony on 26 September 2013 at the 13th ACTS International Conference at the Novotel, Sydney Olympic Park on 25-27 September 2013. This will be YOUR opportunity to meet, learn from and share sustainability best practice, within the higher and vocational education sector.

“The highlight of the event was the Green Gown Awards and the amazing list of achievements from Australasia Universities and TAFE’s,

there are many impressive success stories for sustainability within the education sector, in which I am proud to be involved.”
