Setting up and maintaining a website is easier now than ever before.

Sites like WordPress make it simple to get a website up and running for those individ-uals who have no knowledge or experience with coding.

Mount Royal University Faculty of Con-tinuing Education and Extension offers a number of courses in WordPress to help get you started.

“There are three WordPress courses I offer at Mount Royal, all intended for those with little or no web experience but who want to (or must) develop or maintain a website,” say Warren Clendining, senior instructor, MRU, and freelance writer and web designer.

“The courses are specifically tailored for small business owners who wish to take their business online, or who have an existing website and who want to upgrade and maintain it.”

The first course is an introduction to WordPress and takes students through all the steps to set up a basic WordPress website.

The second course is WordPress for busi-ness — this course assumes you have taken the Introduction course and explains how to make your site successful on the Internet.

And the third course is designing in Word-Press — this course explains how to custom-ize your WordPress site's appearance.

These hands on courses are designed for

non-programmers. Each of these courses is 12 hours long and currently offered over a single weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

“Detailed instructions are provided for all steps so the student can work through at

their own pace is they wish,” says Clendining. Class sizes are small enough for plenty of

Project management as an industry con-tinues to gain relevance as an important business practice.

Mount Royal University Faculty of Con-tinuing Education and Extension is now of-fering two new courses in project manage-ment to help individuals looking to expand their leadership abilities.

Both the best practices in project man-agement and the strategic planning for project managers are required courses in the new project management professional development seminars certificate of comple-tion.

The strategic planning for project man-agers course will provide students with practical strategies, techniques and insights to facilitate strategic thinking and planning.

“It is designed for project management teams to get exposure to strategic planning

— an element emphasized in the business/senior management roles but not so much in the project management world — and is

essential right now,” says Diana Nada, pro-ject management specialist, and sessional instructor at MRU.

The best practices in project manage-ment provides students with the tools and techniques to assist them with capturing best practices, implementing continuous improvement measures, and creating a road map for project management excellence.

“This course is designed for practicing project managers who are PMP certified and are practicing project managers,” says Blanka Evanson, instructor of project man-agement at Mount Royal University.

“The course is structured for students to share their various experiences and identify best practices for their own unique situa-tions.

These courses are set to run in the fall of 2016.
