FORT WASHINGTON4
Thank you to who participated in this year’s Junior Camp. The main objective is to have fun so they can enjoy this game for a lifetime but also teaching simple fundamentals so bad habits don’t start early. During the first three sessions, we worked on the full swing, pitching, chipping, and the pump and run. Our last day we got to hit the links, we played an alternate shot horserace style format and played four holes.
Tips for your Junior:
1. Younger kids need variety. You’re never too young to learn, but the smallest swingers need a mixture of
Fort Washington’s Junior Campactivities to keep the game fresh and exciting.
2. Don’t sweat the details. Solid fundamentals are important, but its fine for a beginner to have flaws in their grip or stance as long as they’re hitting the ball.
3. Get on the course. Juniors who spend too much time on the range banging balls can easily loose interest.
4. Enjoy the game together. Father and son, mother and daughter. Celebrate the good shots and forget the bad ones, laugh a lot and let each memory soak in.
Pro Tip:
It’s been well documented that a solid
short game is the key to consistently
shooting lower scores. A vital part of
the short game mix is the finesse shot,
typically from within 100 yards of the
green. On a finesse shot, your mindset
must be quite different from that
applied to the full swing. For example,
when hitting a shot with a full swing,
your goal is to hit the ball hard and far.
Swing length is a key to any well
executed golf shot. A golf club that
smoothly accelerates through the
impact area. Most golfers when trying
to hit the ball short distance have
the fear of hitting the ball to far.
This results in the player quitting on
the shot with an abbreviated follow
through. The key to acceleration,
as well as maintaining a consistent
rhythm, is resasonably matching the
length of the swing on both sides of
the ball. Please remember make sure
the follow through is at least of equal
length to a little longer than your back
swing, and your swing will be in perfect
balance.

Each month we will be submitting a top ten list of films pertaining to a certain predetermined topic or actor, director, time frame, etc. We will let you know the topic for the next month’s column in the previoius month. Then, you are encouraged to shoot an email to us with your input and we will gather the info and present it back to you in this column. We have kinda taken liberties with this first column, and I am quite sure that many of you will not agree with the choices we have made. After all not everybody is an Adam Sandler fan! But do not be discouraged, this topic will reappear later in the year, and your voice will be heard.Welcome to the”Flicks of the Fort”.

The 10% reduction for solar users was common throughout the Fresno area due to the inclement and rainy whether experienced this year. The system was originally projected to provide an 85% offset. Still need better on-going monitoring and have Fort member working on this issue.

Fun GolF Facts:Starting in 1457, golf was banned throughout Scotland by the nation’s Parliament, which believed it inter-fered with residents’ military training. This ban was repeated twice more, in 1471 and 1491. Nearly 300 years later, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews was founded.

THE PARTING SHOT... Scott BUSS, Board PresidentThe first board
meeting of the new
board is in the books
and went well. I believe we have
a very strong and passionate group
that will work well together. The
board approved several projects that
were waiting on the finances to be
available with a goal of having the
dining room freshened by this holiday
season. We will have new dining room
chairs, paint, lighting and carpet.
Also approved was new lighting in the
entryway.
The new software system is up and
running for staff, members will have
access late August. Please look for
emails for links and notices for
member workshops to help with the
member usage and experience.
Several course projects have been
completed, 5 tee box that should be
open by the time you get this along
with 7 and 17 that should be open mid
to late August, and there were several
uneven areas that have been leveled.
The rough project is complete and
went better than we could have hoped
for this year, thanks to Alan and Jose.
That should complete the major on
course improvements for now.
The second year of solar operations is
complete with an 81% off set vs 91%
the first year. Certainly understandable
with the record year of rainfall that
production would be down along with
excessive early heat, our consumption
was up as well. The system was built
with an estimated 85% system offset.
Last item the board will be reviewing
the policies and bylaws over the next
year, there is no agenda for this other
than wording and organization. There
have been several amendments over
the years that don’t quite read right.
