Project list overview

Department of Recreation, Parks
and Cultural Affairs
Parks and Recreation are essential elements of DeKalb County’s quality of life, and their importance will only
increase as the County becomes denser and more populous. In 2001 and 2006, Park Bond dollars contributed
millions of dollars for parks and greenspace projects in DeKalb County, paying for the development of new parks,
new recreation centers, renovations to existing parks, and a variety of amenities including picnic areas, pavilions,
multi-purpose trails, multi-purpose courts, boardwalks and lakes, playgrounds, sports fields, tennis courts,
aquatic facilities, a skate complex and a dog park.
The 2015 SPLOST programs will give residents a chance to enjoy DeKalb's precious natural resources, now and
in the future. With 112 parks and 6,638 acres of land, significant areas of natural and cultural resource
protection, and provision of park and recreation programs, services, and facilities the department’s proposed
SPLOST Projects is a blueprint for renewing DeKalb park facilities for current and future citizens and visitors of
DeKalb County.
The projects will set a course for the delivery of Parks and Recreation services in DeKalb County for the next five
years and beyond. The recommended action strategies will ensure DeKalb County remains a great place to live,
work and play.
