“Meeting via Zoom” President’s Report Dear Rotary Friends and Friends of Rotary
This week the spirit of ANZAC, whilst certainly different, was no less inspiring to me. Yes I missed attending a group function or as I did many years ago, leading the Girl Guides in raising the flag at the traditional town ceremony but the spirit was probably even more special because we got to reflect individually and stood in our communities with each other. My neighbour played the ABC service on his car radio and, as the sound echoed through our streets, it felt right and honourable. Lest We Forget. This time also really brought home to me what our current health care workers are doing around the world to bring the COVID-19 virus under control and care for those affected by it. They also need our gratitude and sincere wishes to stay save amidst it all. We think, particularly, of our own members who are working in the areas of supporting people through times of hardship, job losses and related health issues. Your workloads have increased drastically, and we acknowledge your commitment and long hours you are doing to support these vulnerable people during this pandemic. Thank you to those members who have reached out to contact former members, their spouses or members unable to attend our weekly Zoom meetings. This is a special service which you are doing. Thank you. I read this week that ‘Gratitude reminds us of all that is good amidst the difficult.’ May our gratitude of all that is good maintain our thoughts during this time of ‘difference’. It will pass and then we will appreciate even more those smiles, those hugs and those gatherings together. Thinking of you all - my Rotary family. Stay safe and well.
Sue
Advance Australia Fair Australians all let us rejoice; For we are young and free; We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil; Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in nature’s gifts of beauty rich and rare; In history’s page, let every stage Advance Australia Fair. In joyful strains then let us sing Advance Australia Fair.
Rotary Grace We break Thy bread of Brotherhood, And thank thee Lord for all things good, May we, more blessed than we deserve, Live less for self and more to serve.

Last Week in Review The pre meeting catch up started at 6.00 with members starting to log in.
The meeting started proper at 6.30 with chair John Hall bringing the meeting to order. He then introduced Peter Kaye who recited the 4 Way Test. At the start of the meeting we had 25 members logged in.
President Sue starting her address to the club with a thank you to John Hall for his work behind the scene with getting the meetings going on line with Zoom. Sue also mentioned that a scratchy would be mailed to one lucky member each week! Sue also introduces our newest member, a stuffed Rotary Foundation bear. We are looking for a name so please send any ideas to Sue. Sue also informed us of an important date in history, today is Children’s Book day in Turkey. Sue also thanked the board members for attending, by Zoom, the board meeting on Tuesday.
John then introduced Neil who is giving us the ANZAC day meeting information. Neil reminded us that Mundingburra Rotary have a great tradition of observing ANZAC day from marching in the parade to the dawn service. Neil presented us with a power point from the Australian war memorial on the history of ANZAC day, finishing with the last post and the ode. Thank you Neil.
Peter Kaye was then introduced to the meeting who enlightened us with his wisdom. Peter reminded us that he did not have the opportunity to tell us a St. Paddy’s joke this year so he let one rip!
Victoria Porter was them then introduced to let us know how her matching grant is going along. Sounds like it is going well apart from a couple of hiccups with the matching club in Kenya. Thanks here goes to Allan Church for his assistance. She spoke about the need for face marks and other PPE needed in Kenya and how Kenya is dealing with the situation.
John then introduced Dr. Allan who spoke to the club about the PR calendar project which we will be postponing till next year. He also spoke about project Simon, which is the project of providing a car with a conversion enabling Simon to drive. Happy to announce that all the funds have been achieved and a new car will be happening soon.

Last Week in Review Kat was then introduced to the club to speak about her work at Carter and Spencer. Kat works in logistics with this company. They have over 30 warehouses in Queensland and locations all over the world. In the Townsville warehouse they have 8 very large cold rooms and deliver and store products for Coles. Looks like a very busy place especially at the moment.
Jim Baker then spoke about the recent board meeting with special mention regarding donations to Timor Leste and the bushfire relief.
Jan Johnston mentioned the gifts recently given to members whom have recently had bubs and Jackie’s wedding. Jan is arranging and a catch planned soon over Zoom.
Robin Jones then led our international toast to a club in South Africa.
President Sue then gave her closing remarks and drew the scratchy which was won by Jim Foley.
Sue then gave us her thought for the week. “Life is like folding a fitted sheet”.
The meeting was closed at 7.30.
See you next week Joke of The Week George visits his solicitor to make his will. “What should I do”, he asks. “Just answer a couple of questions and leave it all to me” says his solicitor. “Well”, says George, “I am quite fond of you but I was hoping to leave some to my wife”.
Message from Mel and Troy A special Thank You to all Members for baby gifts, specially loved reading all the messages in the books. Hope to find time to say thanks on zoom … if I am awake!! Mel

“100 Rotary Quotes”: 1969-70 James F. Conway (law), Rotary Club of Rockville Centre, New York, USA. Rotary vision: Review and Renew its procedures and programs, keeping the good, excising the ineffective. “Rotary must be renewed constantly at the club level to avoid stagnation and at the international level to avoid retrogression. But Rotary at all levels depends on the individual Rotarian.” - The Challenge: Review and Renew, THE ROTARIAN, July 1969
“The Object of Rotary” Is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life; Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace, through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
“The 4 Way Test” Of the things we think, say or do. 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
