FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES -Special Education Citizen’sAdvisory CommitteeA Special Education Citizens’ Advisory Committee (SECAC) is acommittee established by the local school system to seekmeaningful input from parents, community partners, service providers, educators, andadministrators on local issues relative to the provision of a free appropriate public education(FAPE) and the achievement of students with disabilities. To work most effectively a SECACoperates as a partnership between parents and families, community leaders andorganizations, educators, and administrators at the local level. A local SECAC enables a localdirector of special education to collaborate with others on local issues and it has thepotential to facilitate positive changes in the delivery of special education services and theachievement of students with disabilities. Regional Pre-K 3 ProgramsThe Regional Pre-K 3 Programs are gearing up for an exciting2019-2020 School Year! There are two regional programsserving 3 year old children in a blended setting- one is locatedat Ridgely Elementary School and the second program has nowrelocated from the Federalsburg Judy Center to PrestonElementary School. Also, we are excited to share that we havea new teacher, Sara Brock, working in the Regional Classroomat RES. This program adopted the Frog Street 3 Curriculum andhas a classroom puppet named Fernando who attends classwith the students!

Pre-Kindergarten ProgramsPre-Kindergarten is starting soon! Teachers will be schedulinghome visits with families during the next two weeks and schoolfor pre-kindergarten students will formally begin on September12, 2019 with Parent Orientation on September 11, 2019. Fanny,our classroom puppet, and our teachers are looking forward tomeeting their new school families!

The Caroline County Infants and Toddlers Program (CCITP) is excited to announce that wehave a new staff member. Lauren Heyliger is the Speech-Language Pathologist assigned towork with the CCITP this year! Lauren comes with experience as she has previously providedservices to infants and toddlers and their families.

Gifted and Talented NewsThe purpose of Caroline County Public Schools’ (CCPS) Gifted and Talented (GT) Program isto identify students in all Caroline County Schools who represent all cultural, ethnic, andeconomic groups. It is our responsibility to develop and implement the gifted and talentededucation and services needed to develop our student's full potential.On June 25, 2019, the Maryland State Board of Education adopted amendments to Regulations.01—.04 and .06 under COMAR 13A.04.07 Gifted and Talented Education. This action has beenadopted and is effective as of July 15, 2019. I look forward to a continued collaboration withteachers, counselors and administration to implement programs to meet the needs of ourgifted and talented learners.
