Creating Healthy Habits

As humans we are all creatures of routine!

Which is why old habits die hard, so how do

we create new healthy habits?

Research says it takes 21 times to create a

new habit. That means you need to do

something 21 times to make it a part of your

regular routine.

So, where does one start?

1. Set small, realistic goals with an action plan.

2. Be determined! Change takes time and hard

work.

3. Go easy on yourself! If you slip up, that’s okay,

just try again!

Warm Welcome!

OPTIONS welcomes

Dominik to the Day

Program!

In such a short amount of

time you have managed to

make such a positive

impact on those around

you with your bright smile

and larger than life laugh!

The Discovery of the Titanic

By James Hudson

September 1, 1985 at1:05am, 400 miles SE of Newfoundland the Titanic was discovered by

Robert Ballard.

Robert Ballard was an ocean explorer; he found the famous shipwreck as the result of a top-

secret military expedition. Ballard’s Navy secretary John Lehman knew Ballard wanted to look

for the Titanic and told him when he finished his mission, he could do whatever he wanted to

do. Ballard said the Navy never expected him to find the Titanic, so when that happened, the

Navy got really nervous because of the publicity.

The traditional way to search for wrecks was to use sonar. Sonar uses sound to detect objects

underwater. As well as using sonar, Ballard searched for the Titanic’s trail of debris. He

estimated that it would be over 2km long. Ballard had just 12 days to find it, in an area of ocean

five times the size of New York.

To find the trail, Ballard used a deep-sea vehicle called Argo. Argo had lots of cameras and was

towed behind the ship. Argo floated just above the sea floor, 2.5 miles down in the cold, dark

Atlantic.

After days of searching, Ballard found the trail. He knew the currents would take the trail

northwards. Ballard followed the trail and sailed right up to the Titanic!

Golden Larches Hannah Geake

Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the

year! Watching as the leaves change colours

from green to yellow, yellow to orange,

orange to brown. The trees begin to shed

their leaves as they prepare for the first

snow fall. Sometimes, if you aren’t careful

Fall can come and go in the blink of an eye.

That is why it is so important to me to

make the most out of this seemingly short

season. Hiking in the mountains is a

favorite activity of mine, and in the Fall, it

becomes a little more special when you

discover that perfect hike that opens up to a

valley of golden larches.

Happy

Thanksgiving October 14, 2019

Canadian Thanksgiving falls on the second

Monday in October; this annual holiday

celebrates the harvest and blessing from the

past year.

For many of us Thanksgiving means spending

quality time with loved ones, giving thanks for

our blessing and stuffing our bellies with

turkey, mash potatoes, gravy and pumpkin pie.

On this day we are encouraged to be thankful

for what we have!

We asked around to find out what people at

OPTIONS are thankful for, and here is what

they said:

- Spending time with family and friends

- Exploring the world

- Living so close to the mountains

- Living in Canada

- Having a job

- Coffee

- Teamwork

- Good company and conversations

- Delicious food

- Watching and playing sports

- Being alive

- Camping

- Reading books

- Good health

- My dog

- Having a home

- Snow days

- Laughter

- Toilet paper
