Is a shooting star, really a shooting star?
A shooting star is really a meteorite. A small piece of a meteorite breaks off of an asteroid when it enters Earth’s atmosphere, causing it to shoot across the sky.
Between what two planets are asteroids usually found?
Between Mars and Jupiter.
Is it possible for some meteorites to land earth?
Yes! It is possible. There is a place called Meteor Crater, Arizona, where an enormous meteorite landed in the desert about 50,000 years ago. The crater is more than 11 football fields wide and 600 feet deep.
