Presidents ReportOctober 2010From the desk of . . .The ChiefHi everyone, as always I hope this newsletter finds allwell and in great health and spirits.Hi, everyone as always I hope this newsletter finds allin good health and spirits. We are coming to the end of October Spooks andScoots is behind us and Estero River chapters Throttle-ween is coming up at the end of the month many fromthe Southwest chapter have expressed interest in at-tending with me this year so be sure to get in touchwith me so we can all ride down together and dont for-
get to wear your costume as this just adds to the fun. Some of us attended this event last year and we all hada fantastic time. The state meeting for October wasmoved to the first weekend instead of the secondweekend and because of the change of the date ouralternate delegates could not attend, I did attend how-ever and will have all the info from the meeting avail-able at this months chapter meeting. One thing I wouldlike to share with everyone is the fact that I had to takemy Caddy up to Spooks this year because I had theproject that I have been working on in the trunk of mycar as it would not fit on the bike. Those of you not fa-miliar with the project I will give a short history on it.The project was made entirely form the old delegatessticks that I received from our state sgt. at arms, Mud-der about a year ago. Mudder had forgotten the sticksfor one of our state meetings and when he realized hiserror he immediately ran down to Lowes and HomeDepot and came up with all new ones, well when I ar-rived at the state meeting I noticed all new sticks withall of the writing and chapter logos missing, I ap-
proached Mudder and asked him what happened to theold ones at this time he confessed that he had forgot-ten them in his preparations for the meeting and at thelast minute had to go out and replace them , I thenasked him if it would be ok if I could have them he saidhe would let me know as it wasnt his place to say yesor no. After some asking around he came back and toldme yes, a bit dismayed he asked what I wanted themfor and I told him those sticks tell a story of ABATE
over the past years and that I would love the opportu-nity to build something out of them to possibly auctionoff at the annual Freedom rights rally. Some time hadpassed since our conversation and I wasnt able to getthe sticks in time for that event but I did eventually getthem. I got to work on the project and assembled a cof-
fin and a large cross that I had planned to donate to theHillsborough chapter for the annual Spooks and ScootsBrothers and sisters Memorial this insuring that allAbate members past, present and future would be ableto share in the nostalgia. With the project safe and secure in the trunk of my car Iheaded up to Spooks I arrived right on time for themeeting and planned on delivering this gift at the camp-ground later that evening but after the state meeting Iwent out to my car only to find a dead battery I got ajump start from Wayne and headed to the campground,
I made it about one or two miles away when I brokedown again. After some checking out I found that thealternator in my car was shot I was forced to have mycar towed home, never making it to the campgroundand so the project is still in my possession and I plan toget it up to Hillsborough sometime in the near future. In other news we have our Christmas run coming upfast and Wayne, Babs, Big Bird, Scott, Janice and I allattended a meeting this week to get things in motion. This year we will be bringing Christmas to three differ-ent homes for mentally challenged adults and orphanchildren, it promises to be a very rewarding experienceI hope you will all get involved with this truly touchingexperience. The Peace River chapter will also be join-ing us this year with our Christmas run, we are hopingfor a tremendous turnout. We will be attending the Phantoms MC poker run afterthe meeting this month all are welcome to attend. In closing I would like to thank our Safety people foranother fabulous year with the MSAP program in ourschools. Birdie, Smokie and Richie do a great job and
its because of their dedication that the Southwestchapter remains the premier safety chapter in the state. Also thank you to our board of directors for all of youreffort and dedication you guys continually amaze meand I truly appreciate all that you do for the Southwestchapter. Its you guys that keep me inspired.
Ride Safe,
Frankie

From the desk of your VP
Hello Everyone,
The good weather is here and so are
many events, good riding and fellow-ship. Bike night at the Paradise Tiki Hut
is becoming a busy place. I look forward
to seeing those who come out. Each
week we have live music by Lee Hazen
of UTI, (Under the Influence), good food
and a great atmosphere, not to mention
our fabulous server, Amber and our bar
tender, Chris. Special thanks to Mark for
all his help in making it happen.
Do you know a vendor who may want
to set up on a Wednesday night? Let me
know. At non special events we will of-
fer a free vendor spot.
I encourage anyone who wants to get
more involved with this chapter to con-
tact me @ 239-989-3349 or e-mail [email protected]. Dont feel left out,
help out, Just Ask!
The Christmas Run is fast approaching
and I look forward to working and shar-
ing this event with everyone. We had
our preliminary meeting to determine
who we will visit and how the run will
take place. If you are interested in help-
ing out, we could use it. We also havethe support of Peace River Chapter who
will work with us and ride the event.
Donations are needed to make this
event successful as it has been for the
last 30 years. Please do not hesitate to
ask for anything we can raffle off or do-
nate to one of the centers we will visit.
To get more involved, call Wayne or
Frankie, for Donations, call Rob BigBird Cran, visit us on Wednesday night
at the Tiki Hut, 6 10, or shoot us an e-

Being Thankful - no matter WHAT!
Last year, we wrote to you about a biker who had been jailed for unfounded reasons and our seem-ingly feeble attempts to have him released. How-ever, he had complete faith in allowing God to
have him linger there, for almost three months! And, the reason wasn't made immediately apparentto him. But, he hung on and released his heart andall he had, fully to God. All the time, givingthanks... And, God answered him with completevictory!
This year, you have told us some horrendous sto-ries of how finances have made things very hard onyour lives. Some of you have lost your homes. Some of the financial burdens have severely exac-
erbated your relationships with friends, spouses, and other family members. Some have had to sellor otherwise give up your bikes. In some instances, health problems have added to the stress.
Scriptures tell us that if we release all areas in ourlives to God and give ourselves completely to Him,He will be able to release His blessings, abun-dantly. This happened with our jailed friend. Ingiving and finances, God actually tells us to testHim in this area (Malachi 3:10).
On December 10th, at the Biker Bible Caf, wewill spend time thanking God for His provisionsand/or whatever we have left. We will ask anyonethere if they want to turn their lives completelyover to Him and release whatever needs to be re-leased, so that God can begin to work in your lives.
And, you will begin to know His word is true. Itmay take time to get an answer. But, it will be anew start. Wouldn't you rather face problems withGod, than without Him?
Ephesians 5:19-20 tells us to give thanks in ALLthings. Speak out to one another in psalms andhymns and spiritual songs, offering praise withvoices and making melody with all your heart tothe Lord, at all times and for everything givingthanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God
the Father.Romans 8:28 says, And we know that all thingswork together for good to those who love God, tothose who are the called according to His purpose.
Looking forward to December (see flyer in News-letter). You are welcome to call us, at any time.
You can begin to turn your lives over to God,now... Please pray. Our dear Lord and God, theGod of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I thank you forwho You are. I thank You for creating me and evengiving the opportunity of knowing You. I thankyou for even bringing me to this point to where Ican acknowledge You and receive Your Son as MyLord and Savior. I confess that I am a sinner andhave been separated from You. I ask forgiveness ofmy sins. I repent and accept this gift of repentanceand I wish to be free in you. I confess with mymouth that your son Jesus is my Savior and diedfor me. I believe in my heart that You raised Himfrom the dead. I receive Jesus into my heart andask Him to become the center of my life. I ask, inthe Name of Jesus. Amen."
Blessings,

ABATE of Florida, Inc.Voting Information
The following information is only a list ofcandidates that ABATE of Florida, Inc. hasidentified as motorcycle friendly. Please vote
for the candidates of your choice.
US Senate Marco Rubiolong time sup-
porter of ABATE.
Governor Rick Scott
Attorney General Pam Bondi
Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater
Long time supporter of ABATE.
Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Put-namLong time supporter of ABATE
The following are only my observations,
NOT ABATE of Florida, Inc.
This is only for your information;
please vote for your own choices.
Supreme Court Justices: I am voting NO
for Jorge Labarga and James E.C. Perry.
These two judges have had a very left leaningview of the law and most recently theythroughout the Amendment that would let thevoters of Florida decide if we want Federally
mandated health care.
Amendment 1 YES
Repeal of Public Campaign Financing Re-quirement. I am against my tax money going
to any candidate. If my money goes to a candi-date, it should only happen because I gave it tothem. My money should not go to candidates
that I do not support.
Amendment 2 YES
Homestead tax credit to Active Military Per-sonnel. This will credit the military personnel
homestead property tax for the time that theyare out of the State on Active duty. In otherwords, if a Marine is over seas for six monthson active duty, they do not have to pay prop-erty tax on their property for the time that they
are gone.
Amendment 4 NO
The hometown democracy rule. If this
passes it will mandate a vote by all local citi-zens on all local issues. Beside the bureau-cratic nightmare it will cause, it will allowpeople who have no connection to your area to
decide what is best for you.
Amendments 5 and 6 NO
Legislative Redistricting. This takes the abilityto map legislative districts out of our electedState Legislators and will open the door to thenon-elected courts and judges to decide whatthe districts should look like. It takes thepower away from the people and due to themany lawsuits that will spring up if these two
pass, our taxes will rise.
Amendment 8 YES
Revision of class size requirements for publicschools. This will give the individual schoolsthe ability to raise the maximum number ofstudents in a class by 5 students if the schooldecides it is necessary and viable. It gives thechoice back to the individual school to decidewhat is best for their students, faculty, and
families.
Non Binding Statewide Referendum: YES
Should the US Constitution be amended to re-quire a balanced federal budget without rais-
ing taxes? Not just yes, but HELL YES!
Early voting begins Monday October 18thand ends Saturday October 30th. The earlyvoting hours are 10:30am to 6:30pm Mon-day thru Saturdays.

20. Look where you want to go - Use the miracle of tar-get fixation to your advantage. The motorcycle goes whereyou look, so focus on the solution instead of the problem.Check your mirrors every time you change lanes.
21. Keep your eyes moving - Traffic is always shifting, sokeep scanning for potential trouble. Don't lock your eyeson any one thing for too long unless you're actually dealingwith trouble.
22. Think before you act - Careful whipping around thatCamry going 7 mph in a 25-mph zone or you could end upwith your head in the driver's side door when he turns into
the driveway right in front of you.
23. Raise your gaze - It's too late to do anything about the20 feet immediately in front of your fender, so scan theroad far enough ahead to see trouble and change trajec-tory.
24. Get your mind right in the driveway - Most acci-dents happen during the first 15 minutes of a ride, below40 mph, near an intersection or driveway. Yes, that couldbe your driveway.
25. Come to a full stop at that next stop sign - Put afoot down. Look again. Anything less forces a snap deci-
sion with no time to spot potential trouble.
26. Never dive into a gap in stalled traffic - Cars mayhave stopped for a reason, and you may not be able tosee why until it's too late to do anything about it.
27. Don't saddle up more than you can handle - If youweigh 95 pounds, avoid that 795-pound cruiser. If you're 5-foot-5, forget those towering adventure-tourers. Stay in
your comfort zone riding with a group.
28. Watch for car doors opening in traffic -And smack-ing a car that's swerving around some goofball's opendoor is just as painful.
29. Don't get in an intersection rut - Watch for a two-way stop after a string of four-way intersections. If you
expect cross-traffic to stop, there could be a painful sur-prise when it doesn't.
30. Stay in your comfort zone when you're with agroup - Riding over your head is a good way to end up inthe ditch. Any bunch worth riding with will have a rendez-
vous point where you'll be able to link up again.
31. Give your eyes some time to adjust - A minute or
two of low light heading from a well-lighted garage ontodark streets is a good thing. Otherwise, you're essentiallyflying blind for the first mile or so.
32. Master the slow U-turn - Practice. Park your butt onthe outside edge of the seat and lean the bike into theturn, using your body as a counterweight as you pivot
around the rear wheel.
33. Who put a stop sign at the top of this hill? - Don'tpanic. Use the rear brake to keep from rolling back down.Use Mr. Throttle and Mr. Clutch normally--and smoothly--to pull away.
34. If it looks slippery, assume it is -A patch of suspi-cious pavement could be just about anything. Butter Fla-vor Crisco? Gravel? Mobil 1? Or maybe it's nothing. Betterto slow down for nothing than go on your head.
35. Bang! A blowout! Now what? - No sudden moves.
The motorcycle isn't happy, so be prepared to apply a littlecalming muscle to maintain course. Ease back the throttle, brake gingerly with the good wheel and pull over verysmoothly to the shoulder. Big sigh. Hedge your bets atIntersections.
36. Drops on the faceshield? - It's raining. Lightly mistedpavement can be slipperier than when it's been rinsed bya downpour, and you never know how much grip there is.Apply maximum-level concentration, caution and smooth-ness.
37. Emotions in check? - To paraphrase Mr. Ice Cube,chickity-check yoself before you wreck yoself. Emotionsare as powerful as any drug, so take inventory every timeyou saddle up. If you're mad, sad, exhausted or anxious, stay put.
38. Wear good gear - Wear stuff that fits you and theweather. If you're too hot or too cold or fighting with ajacket that binds across the shoulders, you're dangerous. It's that simple.
39. Leave the iPod at home - You won't hear that cement
truck in time with Spinal Tap cranked to 11, but they mightlike your headphones in intensive care.
40. Learn to swerve - Be able to do two tight turns inquick succession. Flick left around the bag of briquettes, then right back to your original trajectory. The bike will fol-low your eyes, so look at the way around, not the bri-
quettes. Now practice till it's a reflex.

40. Learn to swerve - Be able to do two tight turns inquick succession. Flick left around the bag of briquettes, then right back to your original trajectory. The bike willfollow your eyes, so look at the way around, not the bri-quettes. Now practice till it's a reflex.
41. Be smooth at low speeds - Take some angst out,
especially of slow-speed maneuvers, with a bit of rearbrake. It adds a welcome bit of stability by minimizingunwelcome weight transfer and potentially bothersomedriveline lash.
42. Flashing is good for you - Turn signals get yourattention by flashing, right? So a few easy taps on thepedal or lever before stopping makes your brake lightmore eye-catching to trailing traffic.
43. Intersections are scary, so hedge your bets - Putanother vehicle between your bike and the possibility of
someone running the stop sign/red light on your right andyou cut your chances of getting nailed in half.
44. Tune your peripheral vision - Pick a point near thecenter of that wall over there. Now scan as far as you canby moving your attention, not your gaze. The more youcan see without turning your head, the sooner you canreact to trouble. Everything is harder to see after dark.
45. All alone at a light that won't turn green? - Put asmuch motorcycle as possible directly above the sensorwire--usually buried in the pavement beneath you and
located by a round or square pattern behind the limit line.
If the light still won't change, try putting your kickstanddown, right on the wire. You should be on your way in
seconds.
46. Every-thing is harder to see after darkAdjust your headlights, Carry a clear faceshield and haveyour game all the way on after dark, especially during
commuter hours.
47. Don't troll next to--or right behind--Mr. PeterbiltIf one of those 18 retreads blows up--which they do withsome regularity--it de-treads, and that can be ugly.Unless you like dodging huge chunks of flying rubber,
keep your distance.
48. Take the panic out of panic stopsDevelop an intimate relationship with your front brake.Seek out some safe, open pavement. Starting slowly, findthat fine line between maximum braking and a locked
wheel, and then do it again, and again.
49. Make your tires rightNone of this stuff matters unless your skins are right.Don't take 'em for granted. Make sure pressure is spot-onevery time you ride. Check for cuts, nails and other junk
they might have picked up, as well as general wear.
50. Take a deep breathCount to 10. Visualize whirled peas. Forgetting someclown's 80-mph indiscretion beats running the risk of ruin-
ing your life, or ending it. -MC
