Spartan Families, One of the goals at Southeast this year is to create a school where students will learn sustaina-ble life skills to promote social and emotional success. In a child’s world, many of these skills are learned through play and recess. To help accomplish this goal we have paired with an or-ganization called Playworks. Our intent is to shape a positive school culture by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play every day. Southeast’s partnership with Playworks will al-low us to have a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. New School Counselor:

Dear Parents: Welcome to another great start to Southeast Elementary School. My name is Jennifer Schlatter, and I am the new

School Counselor for Southeast. Parents sometimes wonder about the elementary school counselor and the services we provide for their children. I interact with your children in the classroom, on the playground, in the hallways, during lunch or in the testing environment.

When I am not working with scheduled groups, classes or in some individual sessions, I will be visiting classes to ob-serve students in their classroom setting, and in general, try to stay visible and involved as much as possible on a daily basis. An important part of my job is to work with parents and teachers to provide the best learning environment for all students in our building. Please note that I will not be providing therapy to your students. We work with Community Reach Center that provides a therapist two and a half days a week.

I will keep the parents informed about things when it is appropriate. When a student is invited into a group, parent permission slips will go home and need to be signed before they can participate. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to give me a call at (303) 655-2669 or come by and see me in room 122. Sincerely, Jennifer Schlatter School Counselor Southeast Elementary

Welcome Back from your 27J

District Nurses!

We are excited to welcome you all back to another school year.

By way of background, your district nurse consultants are now

entering our fourth year with 27J. There are eight of us and all

are employees of Children’s Hospital Colorado, contracted as

district nurse consultants here in Brighton. We all have differ-

ent backgrounds but are all experts in pediatric care. Our ex-

pertise ranges from diabetes and asthma to cardiology and

emergency room/urgent care. Most of us worked in the clinical

setting before becoming district nurse consultants.

Each of us oversees several schools and we work as a team to

provide coverage for each other. The health assistant in each

building is in communication with us regularly and we visit each

school weekly. Here is a quick list of do’s and don’ts to ensure a

great start to the year:

DO make sure you have all of the correct, signed paper-

work when you bring in any medication to the school.

DON’T sent medication with your student to school with-

out the school’s knowledge.

DO make sure your child’s immunizations are all up to date

and you have current records.

DO use these guidelines on when deciding whether or not

you should keep your child home from school.

Our #1 goal is the health and safety of your students. Every-

thing we do is aimed at keeping them healthy and safe in

school. Please don’t hesitate to call us if we can answer any

questions. Let’s have a great year!

Solar Eclipse

Students were excited on Mon-

day August 21st not only for our

kindergarteners to join us at

school, but also to view the solar

eclipse! The solar eclipse on

Monday was the first time since

1918 that a solar eclipse was

visible on a path across the en-

tire continental United States.

The eclipse occurred between

10:22 a.m. and 1:13 p.m., and peaked at 11:46 a.m.,

with 93% of the sun covered. Southeast was blessed to

be supported by UNC who donated 500 pair of glasses

for all our students to safely view the eclipse. Students,

staff and parents were excited and truly enjoyed this

rare event. What a great way to kick of the school year,

with a true authentic learning experience! We are

blessed to have such excited learners ready to start the

school year. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Kellison for

working with UNC to make this event possible for all of

our Southeast learners .
