at finding the clues presented to you? Will your skills of observation and intuition help

present the final piece of evidence to solve the case? Even if you don’t think so… come

along and have some fun and learn about hair and footprint matching, handwriting

analysis and ransom note chromatography, fingerprint recording and fibre analysis. Use

microscopes and have a much closer look at all those clues we miss. Have a go and see

if you’re a good liar or not, can you tell when someone is lying…What are the indicators

that we can see?... or… even hear? How it is possible to reconstruct a person’s face just

from a skull. Become involved in a crime scene and attempt to solve it using laboratory

equipment supplied by Scitech when they visit our classroom.

Why is protecting our borders so important? After seeing some of the effects of the

coronavirus have we, in Australia, learnt some important lessons? Or not?

We will look at protecting our borders from the illegal movement of weapons, drugs,

and people. We will investigate the risks associated with food, plants and animals

brought into Australia and the pests and diseases related to them.

Did you know that upon entry to Australia, plants or animals must be identified by their

scientific name, packed in clean packaging and inspected by customs officers to

ensure they are free from insects, fleas, worms, snails, soil, seeds, fruit or disease

symptoms? But.. is this always done? And if not ..why not?

We now realise that spreading a bacteria or virus around the world is possible, so what

can we do to prevent this? Let’s investigate some of the exotic diseases, bacteria and

viruses and their effects, and see just what is out there.

Marine Biology is the science of saltwater and everything that lives, moves and filters

through it. When you look at the Earth, you can see that nearly three quarters of the

Earth’s surface is covered with water. Scientists believe life on this planet started in the

ocean, and gradually adapted to life on land. Some land-based organisms eventually

returned to the water, like dolphins and whales.

In this course you will learn about life in the ocean depths, at the Polar extremes, in coral

reefs, estuaries and in the open sea. You will learn about plants large and small, marine

birds, reptiles, invertebrates and fish and discover how all these organisms connect with

each other in the marine biome. It is most important to place all our knowledge into

perspective and study the different reefs off the West Australian coastline. We will have

a Marine Biologist visit us and give us a detailed account of their job and we will

conclude the course with a visit to AQWA which will give us the opportunity to apply all

our knowledge in this marine habitat.

Army. Study real life survival stories. Investigate Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and then

decide on your own pathway to survival. Team work, leadership, resourcefulness and a

keen inquiring mind are necessary to solve a range of maths, science, technology,

physical and logical problems. Are you up for the Survivor challenge?

(Course fee includes three sessions with a Survival expert.)
