Gratitude can transform common

days into thanksgivings, turn routine

jobs into joy, and change ordinary

opportunities into blessings—

William Arthur Ward

As we head into November, it’s

hard not to be appreciative of so

many things here at the ELC. Thank

you families for making your student’s

education a priority, getting them

here everyday, and participating in

our family engagement activities and

events such as home visits, parent

advisory, pumpkin decorating/science

family night, joining us on field trips,

or volunteering in the classroom.

Your involvement is key to the suc-

cess of our programs and we thank

you.

Our teachers, assistants and home

visiting staff work above and beyond

to provide educational and engaging

experiences. Whether it’s Cook Kelly

who prepares a full turkey dinner

every seven weeks, Teacher Barbe

marching her 4 year olds up the hill

to be prepared in case of a

tsunami, the Family Support

Staff getting

their hands on over a hundred

pumpkins during a “pumkin

shortage”, or Teacher Dawn

bringing to life the secrets of

nocturnal animals. A big

thank you to Teacher Rhonda

for growing her own pumpkin

patch and sharing it will all of

the early learning students!

What a special treat.

As we eek toward winter,

please send your students to

school with weather appropri-

ate clothing—coats, hats,

boots and gloves. We have

access to some supplies, as

well, just let us know if you

have a need.

We gain an hour this week-

end, and I’m thankful for

that! Remember to “fall

back” an hour on Sunday, No-

vember 1st for daylight sav-

ings time.

Lastly, just a friendly re-

minder that there is no part

day preschool on early release

days. And, the full day pro-

Barbe’s Full day 4’s

Dawn’s 4’s Autumn leaves are already falling and the Holidays are fast approaching. Our four year olds are learn-

ing to recognize letters and their sounds, especially the letters in their names, because they are most

important! We are using Handwriting Without Tears to explore straight and curved lines, where lines

begin and end, and the different objects that share the same beginning sounds. Math is easy when you

count your friends, play counting games and even count with something yummy on occasion. We

completed our Tree unit, ending with Nocturnal animals that live in and around trees. Who knew that

eating bugs could be so tasty! But learning is not always in the classroom. A trip to Teacher Rhonda’s

Pumpkin Patch gave us a chance to talk about the weight of big pumpkins, how they grow, what is

inside and even how to help our friends choose and carry such a big treasure. Our children have com-

pleted vision, hearing and dental screenings, because we learn the best when we are healthy and strong.

It was wonderful to see so many families at Harvest Pumpkin Night too, and we are looking forward to

the traditions of the Holidays. On to November!

There will be NO

PRESCHOOL on

November 11th

Reminders

Don’t forget to “Fall

Back”

November 1st is the end of

Daylight Saving Time. Don’t for-

get to move

your clocks

back one

hour.

The children are learning many new skills and improving the skills they had when they arrived in September. We are working on writing first names; please remem-

ber one capital letter and the rest lower case.

All month, the children will be listening for letter sounds, practicing letter sounds at the beginning of words, and rhyming. This is something fun they can do at home

with you. Start with letters that are familiar and then begin introducing new letters. Learning names of family members is a fun place to start.

The Open Court reading curriculum books started coming home last month. The first book was in a gallon-zip-lock bag that can safely store all 20 of the books as

they come home throughout the school year.

Please, provide multiple opportunities for your child to practice cutting, gluing, writing/drawing, naming colors, shapes, letters, sounds, and numbers 0-20; this will

build the necessary skills for success in kindergarten.

I will begin scheduling and meeting with parents for conferences this month, please keep your scheduled appointment, or contact me to reschedule.

Please check backpacks and folders daily for important information from the classroom or office.

Our playground is wet and often very muddy. We will be going outside to play as much as possible, please send extra clothes, socks, and boots if your child

has them.

Please plan to visit our classroom or call if you have

questions about anything.

Thanks for the opportunity to work with your child.

The full-day program is so much fun and we are seeing

remarkable progress by the children. Barbe, Michelle,

Happy Fall!

Autumn leaves are falling down, falling down, falling

down…

Through stories, plays and daily interactive activities

the children will be working on Family, Friendships

and Teamwork. They are daily practice number count-

ing, name recognition and many other appropriate

academic skills, all while working towards mastering

how to take care of their personal needs.

I have had a number of families and children ask about

the songs we sing. My goal is to have a copy of our

classroom favorites ready and available to you before

Thanksgiving. The children are working hard and

moving along quickly in understanding age appropri-

ate concepts of letter and number recognition, expres-

sive language as well as demonstrating phonological

awareness.

I will be preparing for our first conference within the

next couple of week, please check your child’s back-

pack for upcoming information .The rainy season is

here; please dress your child in appropriate clothing

and shoes to ensure they are most comfortable during

class time.

Feel free to come in anytime to take part in our class-

room experiences.
