PRESCHOOL AND PRIMARY SCHOOL ROAD SAFETY SESSIONS The SA Police Road Safety Centre is a leader in road safety education and contributes to a reduction in the frequency and severity of road trauma in South Australia. The SA Police Road Safety Centre provides education on pedestrian and cycle safety, including road rules, to schools and community groups. These presentations can be tailored to meet the needs of specific groups. These sessions are delivered by police officers and are presented at the Road Safety Centre and off site. At the Road Safety Centre there is a mock roadway which is a safe environment for participants to become familiar with road signs, pedestrian safety and road rules. There are no costs for participants and all equipment is supplied. Preschool childrenIntroduction to road safety (45 minutes)This presentation provides children with an introduction to road safety and how to be a good passenger. This session takes place at the children’s preschool.

Primary school children Introduction to road safetyReception to Year 3 (90 minutes)This presentation discusses playing in safe places, the kerb drill, wearing seatbelts, wearing a safety helmet and includes practical riding on the mock roadway.

Introduction to road safetyYear 4 to Year 7 (90 minutes)This presentation provides information on road safety and the Australian Road Rules. It also discusses the appropriate use of cycles, skateboards, scooters and roller skates and includes practical riding on the mock roadway.

School monitor training (45 minutes)This training is delivered to students aged 10 years and above, teachers and school volunteers, who are required to operate a school crossing or pedestrian activated traffic lights. Training takes place at the students’ school.

School holiday program (120 minutes)This program aims to provide an opportunity for children to gain vital road safety education which is traditionally only offered as part of school excursions. Sessions are offered each school holidays for children aged 5 to 8 years and 9 to 12 years. Dates and booking details are provided via SAPOL’s website and social media sites prior to the commencement of each school holiday period.

SA Police Road Safety Centre School Sessions
